  • Wal-Mart to build 115 new stores in China by 2017, upgrade 50 this year

    Beijing, China -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc. unveiled plans to countermand slowed growth in China with 115 new stores in the country by 2017 and creating some 30,000 jobs. The announcement adds about 35 new stores to the retailer’s building plans as Wal-Mart previously targeted 480 total stores in China by 2016, up from around 400 now.

    CEO Doug McMillon said in a statement that "China is a key strategic market for Walmart. Over the next three years we will increase investment across our diverse business operations in China.”

  • Tim Horton’s releases 2014 sustainability results

    Oakville, Canada - Tim Hortons has released its fifth annual Sustainability and Responsibility Report, highlighting the company's 2014 performance results. Key accomplishments in 2014 include:

    • Introduced Calorie Aware menu boards across Canada to highlight breakfast products under 350 calories.

    • Increased the number of farmers who participated in the Tim Hortons Coffee Partnership Projects to a total of 4,830 farmers.

  • Report: Target tests targeted video tool

    Minneapolis – Target Corp. is reportedly testing a solution that automatically recommends sponsored videos to Web users based on the content they are reading. According to Advertising Age, Target is piloting the Kargo Kapsule application, which recommends sponsored videos that relate to the content displayed on a consumer’s Web screen.

  • J.C. Penney taps consumer marketing exec as CMO

    Plano, Texas -- J.C. Penney Company has named consumer marketing executive and board member Mary Beth West as executive VP and chief customer and marketing officer, effective June 1. She replaces Debra Berman, who resigned as CMO after less than two years with the retailer.  West will be stepping down from the board to assume the new role.

  • Staples targets small business customers

    On the heels of Amazon’s B2B move, Staples is launching a marketing campaign to lure more small business customers. Staples says it will offer 40% off large posters, banners and lawn signs, and 50% off custom invitations and announcements through June 27.

  • J.C. Penney expands in-store Sephora partnership

    Plano, Texas – J.C. Penney Co. Inc. is expanding its in-store partnership with Sephora. Starting May 1, Penney will introduce Sephora to 25 additional stores, enabling the global beauty retailer to enter new and smaller markets, while expanding Penney’s reach as a destination for beauty.

    Since the exclusive partnership launched in 2006, more than 500 Penney stores now feature a full-service Sephora offering.
