  • Chico's names SVP marketing

    FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Chico's announced that Celia Rao Visconti has been named SVP marketing for Chico's. Rao Visconti will report directly to Cinny Murray, brand president of Chico's and will oversee the brand's marketing strategy and initiatives.  

  • Hasbro in deal to develop Transformers online game

    PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- Hasbro announced that it has signed a strategic development agreement with Jagex Limited to jointly create a new online game based on the Transformers brand. Under the agreement, the two companies are slated to launch the Transformers online game in 2012 in North America, Latin America, Europe, New Zealand and Australia.

  • Lowe's reaches out to online retailer affiliates

    MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Lowe’s has joined the likes of Sears Holdings and Barnes & Noble in extending an invitation for a business partnership with online retailer affiliates.

    “Lowe’s is committed to the communities where we do business,” said Gihad Jawhar, vice president of Lowes.com. “We sincerely hope businesses will consider Lowe’s as a partner.”

  • February retail sales show biggest gain in four months

    New York — U.S. retail sales rose 1% in February, boosted by job gains, the tax cut and more seasonable temperatures, the Commerce Department reported Friday. It was the highest gain in four months. Sales excluding autos increased 0.7%.

    The 1% increase followed a revised 0.7% rise in January that was more than double the previous estimate, according to Commerce Department figures.

  • Online sales tax bill approved by Arkansas Senate

    New York City -- The Arkansas Senate voted Thursday to require many out-of-state online retailers to collect sales taxes the same way in-state stores do, a move that is pitting Wal-Mart Stores against online stores and anti-tax activists, the Associated Press reported.

  • Veteran ad exec named to hall of fame

    Tim White, SVP marketing at Fashion Bug, and a 30-year retail industry veteran, this week was inducted into the Retail Advertising and Marketing Association’s Advertising Hall of Fame. White is currently leading a team focused on building a brand identity at Fashion Bug that satisfies the clothing wants and needs of today value conscious woman. White spent the early part of his career with Kmart, ascending the ranks to become the lead marketing executive for Kmart’s launch of the super center initiative.

  • JCPenney helps underprivileged teens realize prom dreams

    PLANO, Texas -- JCPenney is giving underprivileged teens the chance to have their very own prom dress, while at the same time encouraging those more fortunate to give to a worthy cause. The company announced that from March 13 through April 2, customers can donate their gently worn prom dresses at one of more than 1,100 JCPenney stores nationwide.
