  • Costco, Target, Kohl's and TJX beat estimates

    New York -- Discounters reported strong-than-expected sales for August, fueled by back-to-school shopping, promotions and cooler weather in the Northeast.

    Costco Wholesale Corp.'s same-store sales in August rose 6%, beating the 4.5% rise analysts had projected.

    Target Corp. reported a 4.2% increase in same-store sales, better than the 3.1% increase that analysts had expected.

  • Woolite set to open pop-up boutique during New York Fashion Week

    NEW YORK — Woolite is opening a branded pop-up boutique during New York Fashion Week. Located at 372 West Broadway in New York, the WooliteWashed boutique will open its doors to the public on Sept. 6 with a kick-off party during Fashion's Night Out, hosted by Cat Deeley from "So You Think You Can Dance" and celebrity style expert Jacqui Stafford.

  • J.C. Penney can go ahead with plans to sell Martha Stewart goods

    New York -- New York State Supreme Court Justice Jeffrey Oing on Thursday denied Macy's Inc.’s attempt to block J.C. Penney Co. from proceeding with plans to sell a number of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia home goods products in its stores.

    In January, Macy’s sued Martha Stewart Living to stop it from executing a sales agreement with J.C. Penney. Macy’s claimed it had the exclusive right to sell Martha Stewart products in certain categories,  including bedding and cookware.

  • Kroger fuels up the savings at the pump

    CINCINNATI— Kroger is extending its summer fuel savings program through the fall and holiday seasons. Customers can now earn and redeem fuel points to save up to $2.00 off per gallon at Kroger Family of Stores Fuel Centers through Dec. 31.

    "At our customers' request we are pleased to extend our special offer doubling potential fuel savings up to $2.00 per gallon through the busy fall and holiday shopping seasons," said Michael Donnelly, Kroger's SVP of merchandising.

  • Lowe’s in deal with IMG College to reach college sports fans via social media channels

    MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Lowe’s Companies and the collegiate multimedia, marketing and licensing/brand management firm IMG College announced a national marketing agreement that helps the home improvement retailer reach college sports fans where dialogue is a game changer: official social media platforms.
     

  • Retailers make strong gains in August

    NEW YORK — Macy's, Limited Brands and Gap Inc. all posted August same-store sales that topped analysts' estimates as retailers across the board generally posted strong sales, boosted by back-to-school shopping and aggressive promotions. The strong showing comes shortly after the news that consumer confidence for August slumped to its lowest level of the year.

  • Barneys New York, Disney electrify the holidays

    NEW YORK — Barneys New York and The Walt Disney Company are teaming up on Barneys’ 2012 holiday campaign at Barneys stores in a campaign called Electric Holiday.

    The multi-platform initiative will combine fashion and fantasy, merging the creativity and magic of Disney with the wit and surprise of the legendary Barneys New York annual holiday campaign.

  • JoS A. Bank Q2 income up 12.7%; increases store expansion

    Hampstead, Md. -- JoS A. Bank Clothiers reported that its earnings in the second quarter rose 12.7% to $23.2 million, from $20.6 million a year earlier, easily beating analysts projections. The retailer said it plans to open about 45 to 50 stores each in fiscal 2012 and 2013.

    Total sales in the quarter rose 12.9% to $260.3 million. Sales in the company's direct marketing segment, which consists of the Internet and catalog call centers, rose 39.3%.Same-store store sales increased 6.1%.
