Now that’s a stocking stuffer

9/27/2010

Target has scored a Christmas coup by securing distribution of Apple’s popular iPad device and a range of accessories well in advance of the holidays. The product is due to go on sale this weekend (Sunday, Oct. 3 to be precise) at the opening price of $499.99 for the base 16GB Wi-Fi model. Also offered will be the 32GB and 64GB Wi-Fi and the Wi-Fi plus 3G models.

Securing distribution of the iPad is a big deal for Target as was Amazon.com’s Kindle earlier this year as both product helps bring the same type of “expect more, pay less” value proposition to the electronics department that exists in other areas of the store, most notably apparel and home.

“Target is very excited to offer the revolutionary iPad to our guests nationwide,” said Target SVP merchandising Mark Schindele. “We are committed to providing our guests with the best products and we think iPad will be at the top of our guests’ holiday shopping lists.”
