  • Craft & Hobby Association names Kerri Wickersheim VP of Marketing Communications

    ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. — The Craft & Hobby Association (CHA) today announced the appointment of Kerri Wickersheim as vice president of Marketing & Communications effective April 1. Wickersheim will oversee efforts focused on increasing awareness to the Association’s member base of activities and efforts designed to ensure success and growth within various creative vertical markets.

  • Survey: Aldi only grocer to have loyal Facebook following

    Batavia, Ill. -- Survey results released Wednesday by Facebook marketing firm LoudDoor found that discount grocer Aldi USA ranked fifth on a list of the top 20 companies with the most loyal fans. No other grocery retailer was included on the list, which tracks every major brand on Facebook and how likely those brands' fans are to recommend them to friends or colleagues.

    Other companies ranked in the top five include Google, Facebook and Walt Disney World.

  • Herdez expands cooking sauces line, eyes wider distribution to Walmart

    LOS ANGELES — Herdez, maker of Mexican food products and brand of MegaMex Foods announced today it expects expanded distribution to Walmart stores by June, and filling those shelves will be four new Mexican Cooking Sauces currently lining the sauce aisle at Los Angeles-area Albertsons stores.

  • Great American Cookies to expand in Puerto Rico

    Atlanta -- Global Franchise Group said Wednesday it is expanding its Puerto Rican presence via a multi-unit operator.

    A.M.A. Pretzels International opened two Great American Cookies stores in Puerto Rico -- in Plaza Carolina in Carolina, and Plaza Rio Hondo in Bayamon.

    "Global Franchise Group is thrilled to have such outstanding multi-unit franchisees expand the Great American Cookies brand in Puerto Rico," said Global Franchise Group chief development officer John Barber.

     

  • Family Dollar signs new marketing software contract with Retail Sense

    Tampa, Fla. – Family Dollar Stores has signed a multi-year contract with Retail Sense, a marketing software company that accelerates retail and agile marketing processes. This new partnership includes the implementation of the latest release of IntelliSense marketing resource management solutions.
     

  • J.C. Penney resumes old pricing strategy

    Plano, Texas -- A Tuesday report by Reuters said that embattled J.C. Penney Co. has recently revived its previously abandoned pricing strategy of raising prices on its own brands then discounting them as a way to spike sales and margins.

    Citing an emailed statement by Penney spokeswoman Daphne Avila, Reuters reported that the retailer began changing price tags on merchandise earlier in March and expects to complete the process in April.

  • Five Below sales and profits rise in Q4

    New York -- Five Below reported Wednesday that net income for the quarter ended Feb. 2 rose to $19.2 million, compared with $12.4 million in the year-ago period.

    Revenue surged 38% to $173.6 million from $125.8 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2011. Same-store sales rose 4.4%.

    For the full year, profit rose to $20 million from $16.1 million and revenue increased 41% to $418.8 million. The company said it expects to open 60 stores this year, including new markets in Texas, as well as adding units in existing markets.
