  • Finish Line Q1 profit doubles; sales boosted by online and in-store Macy’s shops

    Indianapolis -- The Finish Line’s first-quarter profit more than doubled as the retailer expanded its presence online and in Macy's stores nationwide. Its results topped Wall Street estimates.
     
    The retailer reported a profit of $12.4 million, compared to $5.1 million in the year-ago period. Revenue was up 16% to $406.5 million. Same-store sales increased 5%.
     

  • Bed, Bath and Beyond misses on Q1 profits, sales

    Union, N.J. – Bed, Bath and Beyond Inc. had a difficult first quarter of fiscal 2014, missing Wall Street estimates on both profits and sales. Net earnings fell 8% to $187.1 million, from $202.5 million in the same period a year earlier. Sales rose 2% to $2.66 billion from $2.61 billion, and same-store sales climbed 0.4%.

  • Overstock and Jill Rappaport team up to promote pet adoption

    In an effort to find homes for pets through its new pet adoption service, online retailer Overstock.com has launched a new video featuring animal advocate Jill Rappaport.

    Rappaport is a former “Today Show” correspondent, reporting on entertainment for 17 years before turning her attention to animal issues with her segment “Bow to Wow,” which gave shelter dogs a makeover.

  • Stego embarks on carbon footprint project

    Chicago -- Stego Industries, a provider of in below-slab moisture vapor protection, has launched an ambitious new company-level initiative to eliminate the carbon emissions of its business operations.

    The initiative, Stego’s Carbon Footprint Project, took another step toward this goal at the American Association of Architects (AIA) National Convention in Chicago last week by purchasing carbon offsets for all of the company’s air travel in 2013 — some 115 metric tons — through the TerraPass Carbon Balanced Business Program.

    San Jose, Calif. – Adobe is releasing Adobe Target Premium, a new personalization solution that leverages predictive technology to deliver automated decisioning. Adobe Target Premium is part of the Adobe Marketing Cloud.

    Rite Aid’s store in Beverly Hills, California, has completed a major remodel that reflects the latest evolution of the drugstore retailer’s “wellness store” format.

    While Walmart and the Walton family were taking heat, again, on the national stage over worker pay and alleged stinginess, it was a different situation in Northwest Arkansas where generosity was in plain view.

    The Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G is underway at the Pinnacle Country Club and as has been the case in years past the LPGA golf tournament is accompanied by numerous charitable donations.
