  • Rebates: Invigorate 2013 Marketing Efforts With Promos That Move the Needle

    As retailers and manufacturers settle into the reality of the “new normal” of shoppers who  will continue their frugal consumption habits amidst recession or not, it’s crucial to employ promotional tactics that generate significant, lasting value, not just a flash in the pan. As marketers consider their options, one tried and true promotional tactic should be included to yield definite results: rebates.

  • February retail sales up 1.1%, exceeding expectations

    New York -- Retail spending in the United States rose a better-than-expected 1.1% in February, the highest increase since September, according to figures released Wednesday by the Commerce Department.

    Sales, excluding gasoline, building materials and autos, rose 0.4%. Industry experts said that consumer spending is holding up even in the face of the higher payroll tax.

  • Leslie’s Poolmart on track to open 48 stores in spring 2013

    Phoenix -- Leslie’s Poolmart will celebrate the grand opening of 13 new locations throughout the United States on March 15.

    In total, Leslie's plans to open 48 stores this year, between March and May. With these new stores and its recent acquisition of 24 Warehouse Pool Supply stores in the Houston area, Leslie's will bring its total store count to more than 800 stores nationwide.

  • Teen Vogue to create collection for Macy's

    NEW YORK — Macy's has announced Teen Vogue as the latest fashion-forward collection to launch exclusively in Macy's Mstylelab department. Aimed at the most discerning teenage fashionistas, Teen Vogue will bring Macy's customers the latest trends from the combined fashion eye of Macy's and "Teen Vogue." The collection will be available in approximately 150 Macy's stores nationwide and on macys.com this March. 

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods’ Field & Stream banner to debut in fall

    Pittsburgh -- Dick’s Sporting Goods will debut its Field & Stream concept this fall, opening the first store in Cranberry Township, Pa.

    Named for the iconic brand that for more than 140 years has been synonymous with outdoor experiences, the Field & Stream store will carry outdoor equipment, accessories and services in hunting, fishing, archery, camping and more, and provide an array of related in-store services.

  • Cobbs Ford Village opening spring 2014

    Prattville, Ala. -- Brentwood, Tenn.-based GBT Realty said that it is bringing Starbucks Coffee, Aspen Dental and Firehouse Subs to Cobbs Ford Village, a new, in-line shopping center located in Prattville, Ala., in the Montgomery MSA. 


    Cobbs Ford Village is approximately 2.52 acres and will house several additional tenants that are now in the beginning stages of signing leases. Groundbreaking for the center will be this April, with an estimated opening date of spring 2014.

     

  • Walmart CEO introduces First Lady at Business Roundtable

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart President and CEO Mike Duke introduced First Lady Michelle Obama at the Business Roundtable Wednesday with the following remarks:

    "We are pleased to be joined by our guest today, First Lady Michelle Obama.  Mrs. Obama speaks movingly about the service, strength, and sacrifice of our current generation of troops, veterans, and military families.  It is a personal privilege to share some of her work and to start our discussion around creating opportunity for this new group of heroes.

  • Market Track: February 2013

    February 2013 marked a declining trend in number of inserts per market for the some retailers, but due to big increases at Macy’s (+48%) and Staples (+100%), the overall count of inserts per market across all retailers was actually up 4.3%. Home Depot (-50.0%) was the only retailer witnessing a major fall, whereas the other retailers showed only minor declines. Of the remaining retailers that did not see a decrease, five had no change in the number of inserts per market, while three (including Macy’s and Staples) increased.
