  • Macy's spices up culinary council with new chef

    NEW YORK — Macy's has added chef, restaurateur, author and television star Stephanie Izard to its Culinary Council, an exclusive team of the country's finest chefs who serve to inspire the way Macy's customers shop, cook and eat at home. A James Beard Award nominee, Food & Wine "Best New Chef" and winner of Bravo's "Top Chef" (Season Four), Izard will serve as an ambassador for Macy's Home department alongside fellow Macy's Culinary Council chefs including Rick Bayless, Cat Cora, Nancy Silverton, Ming Tsai and Wolfgang Puck. 

  • Thomas the Tank Engine rolls into Walmart

     NEW YORK — Walmart stores will be the exclusive retailer of a new adventure from Thomas the Tank Engine beginning April 9, 2013.

    The new DVD, Thomas & Friends: Railway Mischief, features five brand new episodes and a bonus, collectible “Calling All Engines” poster. There are also bonus features including a hide and seek game, a music video and a "Guess Who?" puzzle. 

    The DVD will be sold for a suggested retail price of $14.98.

  • Earnings heat up at Hot Topic

    CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. — Teen retailer Hot Topic reported net income in the fourth quarter of $12.1 million, or 29 cents per share, compared with net income of $9 million, or 21 cents per share, for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2011.

  • Manhattan’s Herald Square to be transformed

    New York -- Herald Center, the giant 10-story, 250,000-sq.-ft. black glass retail and office property at the southwest corner of 34th Street and Broadway in Manhattan, is about to undergo a major transformation under long-time owner JEMB Realty. The property will be completely reclad to create a new leasing opportunity encompassing more than 50,000 sq. ft. of prime retail space at one of the most heavily trafficked, high-visibility corners in the world.

  • Maybelline fashions a new beauty blog

    NEW YORK — Maybelline New York has launched "City," its first monthly fashion and makeup blog.

  • Buckle Q4 net income rises 9%

    Kearney, Neb. -- The Buckle said that its fourth-quarter net income increased 9%, topping Wall Street expectations.

    For the quarter ended Feb. 2, the retailer earned $61.4 million, up from $56.1 million in the same quarter last year.
           
    Net sales for the 14-week quarter ended February 2, 2013 increased 7% to $360.6 million from net sales of $337.1 million for the prior year 13-week fiscal quarter ended January 28, 2012. Same-store net sales for the quarter were flat.
     

  • Express Q4 profit tops Street; outlook weak

    Columbus, Ohio -- Express said its fourth-quarter net income rose a better-than-expected 6%, but its full-year projection for earnings came up short as the retailer provided a weak outlook.
       
    Express, similar to many other retailers, had less traffic in February, as higher taxes and rising gas prices cut into shoppers’ discretionary spending.
     
    For the period ended Feb. 2, Express Inc. earned $63.9 million, up from $60.4 million a year earlier.
