  • Forest City launches enhanced websites for 15 retail centers

    Cleveland -- Forest City Commercial Management today announced the launch of 15 redesigned retail center websites. The new sites feature enhanced interactive shopping, social media experiences and content from PlaceWise Media’s Shoptopia.

  • And now a message about merchandise execution

    Matt Kistler is in a relatively new role at Walmart as SVP of merchandise execution and to explain what that means he is on the agenda for an upcoming event presented by Doing Business in Bentonville.

    Kistler is scheduled to speak on February 8 at the DBB event which runs from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and will be held at the John Q. Hammons Center. He is expected to provide an overview of Walmart’s merchandise services unit that was created last year.

  • Old Navy president resigns

    SAN FRANCISCO — Gap Inc. has announced that Tom Wyatt, president of its Old Navy brand, has resigned in order to take a position at another company outside of the apparel retail business, effective Feb. 3. The company has named two senior executives at Old Navy to lead the division, reporting to Gap Inc. chairman and CEO Glenn Murphy, while a formal search for a new brand president is under way.

  • NRF welcomes Obama's plans to boost U.S. tourism

    WASHINGTON — The National Retail Federation said it welcomed President Obama’s plans to boost travel and tourism, saying efforts to process visa applications more quickly will help U.S. stores make more sales to foreign tourists and business travelers who want to come here to shop.

  • Next great product soon to hit Walmart shelves

    SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Walmart is offering consumers the chance to get their product sold on Walmart.com and in Walmart stores in its new contest, "Get on the Shelf."

    The nationwide contest is the latest announcement from @WalmartLabs and similar to the popular American Idol television show, contestants will create videos of their latest inventions and the public will vote online for the winners.

  • Ahold reports positive Q4, full-year results

    Amstersdam — Ahold experienced several bright spots during its fourth quarter and full year, the Dutch-based supermarket company said.

    Fourth-quarter net sales totaled $9.4 billion, a 4.5% increase above the year-ago period, while net sales for the year increased by 2.5% to $39.1 billion.

  • Staples gives small business owners advertising boost

    FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Staples announced that it is offering small business owners the chance to win up to $50,000 in free television advertising in their home market through its “Give Your Small Business the Push It Needs” contest.

  • Walgreens unveils newly renovated stores in Indianapolis

    Deerfield, Ill. — Walgreens has transformed 68 locations in the Indianpolis market into health and daily living destinations.

    The drug store chain hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday at a store located on 16th and Meridian in Indianapolis. On hand at the ceremony were Walgreens president and CEO Greg Wasson, former Indianpolis Colts coach Tony Dungy and Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind.

    The stores are part of Walgreens' pilot program that launched last year in Chicago.
