  • Survey indicates retail improvement and optimism

    North Plainfield, N.J. -- Business appears to be improving, according to a survey by Levin Management Corp. The firm conducted the study among its retail tenants in 90 properties.

    The mid-year survey, which polled 250 retailers, indicated positive changes year-over-year. At mid-year 2012, 64.2% of respondents reported the same or higher sales volume compared with this time last year; 35.7% reported lower sales. At mid-year 2011, 50.1% of respondents reported the same or higher sales; 49.8% reported lower sales.

  • Johnny Rockets inks deal to open 30 restaurants in Brazil

    Aliso Viejo, Calif. -- Johnny Rockets said Tuesday it has finalized a franchise agreement with restaurant entrepreneur Antonio Augusto Ribeiro de Souza to open 30 restaurants in Brazil. 

    This news follows recent announcements of the chain's new franchise agreements in Peru and Ecuador, as well as the opening of its second restaurant in Chile and its first in the Dominican Republic.

  • P&G Beauty names 2011 All-Around World Champion Jordyn Wieber as ambassador

    CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble has announced that Jordyn Wieber, reigning All-Around World Champion, will serve as an ambassador for P&G Beauty brands, including CoverGirl, Head & Shoulders, Olay and Venus.

    Wieber will join fellow teammate Alicia Sacramone as P&G Beauty ambassador, expanding on her existing partnership with P&G and the company's sponsorship of Team USA during the London 2012 Olympic Games.

  • J.C. Penney launches new charitable program

    Plano, Texas -- J.C. Penney Co. has launched a charitable initiative, called jcp cares, that will support a new cause each month by inviting customers to round up their purchases to the nearest whole dollar and donate the difference to the company's featured charity partner. The retailer will join its customers in giving back by making a contribution to its charity partner each month.

    The program will be supported by a robust, integrated marketing campaign which will include digital, social, mobile, in-store and direct mail and e-mail components.

  • Report: Consumers more loyal to retail stores and products than brands

    Denver -- When consumers search for online coupons and savings, 62% search for store-centric deals, 24% for product-specific coupons, and only 14% search specifically for brand name product discounts online, according to the first Buy-havior Report, from coupon-search engine ShopAtHome.com. The report tracks consumer search habits on the site.

    Of the 62% of consumers looking for store-centric savings, Wal-Mart was the most-searched for retailer followed by Kohl’s and Target, respectively.

  • Aritzia to open 13,000-sq.-ft. flagship in New York City

    New York -- Canadian retailer Aritzia will open its largest store to date, a 13,000-sq.-ft. flagship on Fifth Avenue in New York City.

    The apparel retailer is taking over a space previously occupied by Esprit. The location is in a building that is part of Rockfeller Center.

    Walmart’s Bodega Aurrera stores in Mexico and Lider stores in Chile are among the most valuable Brands in Latin American, according to an extensive new report by global communications giant WPP.
