  • Mobile startup Altpay receives $1 million investment

    Hollywood, Fla. – Altpay, a startup mobile payment company that released its patent-pending technology in April 2014, has received a $1 million equity investment from two family office investors. Altpay markets its mobile payment service in the U.S. to regional and mid-market retailers, including supermarkets, grocers, pharmacies and convenience stores.

  • Online orders set record at Walmart.com

    Walmart’s efforts to better integrate physical and digital appear to be gaining traction judging from key disclosures the company made regarding online activity.

    Cyber Monday transaction volume set a new record at Walmart.com and throughout the five day period running from Thanksgiving Day through Cyber Monday the company said it experienced more than 1.5 billion page views. During the same period, mobile accounted for approximately 70 percent of traffic to Walmart.com.

  • Starbucks offers ‘wonderful’ omnichannel promotion

    Seattle – Starbucks wants customers to feel wonderful this holiday season. From now through Jan. 5, 2015, customers who pay using a Starbucks Card or Starbucks mobile app, can enter the Starbucks It’s a Wonderful Card Ultimate Giveaway.

    The omnichannel promotion offers the chance to win one of 482,000 instant prizes, and 10 customers in the U.S. will win the prize of Starbucks for Life, which is one free food or beverage item from participating stores every day for the next 30 years.

  • Walmart reports busy Black Friday weekend

    The world's largest retailer reported a robust Black Friday weekend — including record online sales — as part of its kickoff to the 2014 holiday sales season.

    “In a few short hours, we flipped from being the largest grocery store in town to the best gift shop on the block," said Laura Phillips, SVP of merchandising at Walmart. "Not only did we have millions of customers shopping our stores, but we’re confident Walmart was the first stop of the night for most of them."

  • Study: Holiday iPhone shoppers more valuable than Android users

    New York - iPhone users were more valuable than Android users ($97 to $91 average market basket) during Thanksgiving weekend but Android tablet users were more valuable than iPad ($105 to $102). According to data from online personalization technology vendor Sailthru, desktop average order value was $106, tablet was $102, and smartphone was $96.

  • Hunter’s new global flagship will serve as model for future stores

    London - Hunter, the British footwear and outdoor brand, opened its first global flagship, on London’s high-profile Regent Street. The 5,300-sq.-ft. store presents the retailer’s full collection, from its signature Wellington boots to outwear and accessories.   
  • Wal-Mart Canada adding more Grab and Go lockers

    Mississauga, Canada -  Walmart Canada is adding 33 Grab and Go lockers in the greater Toronto area.  The lockers allow customers to buy online then pick up their items in stores.   The retailer installed its first set of lockers at 10 locations in the Toronto area in August. The announcement follows a series of initiatives Walmart Canada has launched in the past year to accelerate its e-commerce program.
