  • Record-setting Cyber Monday for Walmart—biggest day ever for online orders

    SAN BRUNO, Calif.- It was a very busy Monday—Cyber Monday to be more specific— for Walmart. The discounter said  that Cyber Monday 2014 (Dec. 1) was the biggest online day in its history for orders. Customers viewed more than 1.5 billion pages on Walmart.com between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday.

  • Net income dips at Shoe Carnival in Q3

    Evansville, Ind. – Net income dipped to $10.8 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2014 from $10.9 million the same period the prior fiscal year. Net sales fared better, climbing 7% to $254.69 million from $235.77 million, ahead of previously issued guidance.

  • Food producer Systopia goes cashless

    Irvine, CA – Food producer Systopia International has recently upgraded its payment technology within the dining area of its new Green Bay, Wis. facility. Working closely with in-house caterer Aramark, Systopia designed a cashless payment solution based upon using staff security RFID badges as the cashless credentials.  

  • Is Groupon headed for a resurgence?

    Despite increasing competition from Amazon Local and Google Shopping, Groupon announced Tuesday that its holiday weekend sales set a new record.

    For the full Black Friday through Cyber Monday weekend, the e-commerce site’s North American sales climbed over 25 percent from last year, the company reported. This year's Black Friday and Cyber Monday were the two biggest days in Groupon's North American history, the firm said.

  • Mobile startup Altpay receives $1 million investment

    Hollywood, Fla. – Altpay, a startup mobile payment company that released its patent-pending technology in April 2014, has received a $1 million equity investment from two family office investors. Altpay markets its mobile payment service in the U.S. to regional and mid-market retailers, including supermarkets, grocers, pharmacies and convenience stores.

  • Starbucks offers ‘wonderful’ omnichannel promotion

    Seattle – Starbucks wants customers to feel wonderful this holiday season. From now through Jan. 5, 2015, customers who pay using a Starbucks Card or Starbucks mobile app, can enter the Starbucks It’s a Wonderful Card Ultimate Giveaway.

    The omnichannel promotion offers the chance to win one of 482,000 instant prizes, and 10 customers in the U.S. will win the prize of Starbucks for Life, which is one free food or beverage item from participating stores every day for the next 30 years.

  • Online orders set record at Walmart.com

    Walmart’s efforts to better integrate physical and digital appear to be gaining traction judging from key disclosures the company made regarding online activity.

    Cyber Monday transaction volume set a new record at Walmart.com and throughout the five day period running from Thanksgiving Day through Cyber Monday the company said it experienced more than 1.5 billion page views. During the same period, mobile accounted for approximately 70 percent of traffic to Walmart.com.
