Food producer Systopia goes cashless

12/2/2014

Irvine, CA – Food producer Systopia International has recently upgraded its payment technology within the dining area of its new Green Bay, Wis. facility. Working closely with in-house caterer Aramark, Systopia designed a cashless payment solution based upon using staff security RFID badges as the cashless credentials.

Systopia turned to its hardware partner Aures and selected its Sango PC-based till management system to run the solution. Sango touchscreen POS terminals are located at the dining area serving lines, where transactions are processed largely by cashless card. However, staff and visitors wishing to use cash or a debit or credit card may do so.

The dining solution has been configured in a unique way to enable the Sangos to operate as self-pay terminals after hours.

“There’s an interesting twist to the way we’re using Sangos here,” said Kristi Noyes, operations director, Systopia. “When lunch service ends and the Aramark cashiers go home, the units are rotated to face the customer and provide self-checkout. So, if employees want to snack after 2:30, they head for the ‘grab and go’ area to a cooler filled with pre-packaged salads, sandwiches, yoghurts and drinks. These bar-coded items can be purchased using the employee’s cashless payment credential (their RFID badge).”

In addition, each of the new building’s five levels offers a kitchenette area, featuring a beverage vending machine equipped with Systopia card readers. Employees simply select their beverage, tap their security badge on the reader and purchases are immediately debited from their cashless account.

The POS solution also runs in the employee store as a retail application networked into the same cashless account that staff use for food & beverage purchases. In this location, employees purchase items such as branded apparel, shipping services or attractively-priced dairy products.
