  • Office Depot using new location-based marketing app Shazam In-Store

    AUSTIN, Texas - Office Depot is currently utilizing a new location-based mobile marketing app, Shazom In-Store, in all of its Office Depot and OfficeMax retail store locations throughout the country. The solution combines Shazam, one of the world’s most popular apps, with proprietary technology from Mood Media.

  • Foot Locker quickens its pace

    Enhanced onmichannel capabilities were among the factors that incoming Foot Locker CEO Dick Johnson cited as contributing to the company’s increase in third quarter profits and same store sales.

    Profits for the third quarter climbed to $120 million, or 82 cents per share, compared with profits of $104 million, or 70 cents per share, in the prior-year quarter. Third quarter same store sales increased 6.9% to $1.7 billion this year, compared with sales of $1.6 billion for the prior-year period.

  • Gap misses in Q3; details omnichannel moves

    San Francisco – Gap Inc. failed to meet Wall Street expectations for net income and revenue in its third quartet as its namesake brand continues to struggle. The retailer cut its annual forecast as sales at its namesake brand continue to fall, Gap’s net income rose 11% to $351 million from $337 million, helped by lower cost of goods sold and taxes.  
  • Nasty Gal makes its move from clicks to bricks

    LOS ANGELES The wait is over:  Nasty Gal, the teen-fave online player with a cult following, has opened its first retail store, on Melrose Avenue in the heart of Hollywood, California.   "We've been having a dialogue with our gal for eight years this month and to celebrate that, we're taking the conversation offline," said  Sophia Amoruso, CEO and founder of Nasty Gal, and author of the best-selling #GIRLBOSS book.   
  • Zappos goes brick-and-mortar in Las Vegas

    Online powerhouse Zappos has opened its first-ever freestanding store, a 20,000-sq.ft. pop-up in the company’s  hometown of downtown Las Vegas. Powered by state-of-the-art technology, the shop blends online and offline retail. In keeping with the brand’s heritage, it will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from November 21 until December 31.    

  • Wal-Mart launches omnichannel Cyber Week promotion Nov. 29

    San Bruno, Calif. – Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is offering 500 online deals during Cyber Week, starting Saturday, Nov. 29, more than double the number of cyber deals it offered last year. Every day through Friday, Dec. 5, Walmart.com will offer 500 discount items, with the best deals arriving on Cyber Monday, Dec. 1.   
  • Foot Locker profits Q3 up 15%

    New York - Foot Locker Inc. reported net income of $120 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2014, a 13% gain from $104 million in the year-ago period.  Higher pretax income aided Foot Locker’s profit growth.   Total sales increased 6.7% to $1.73 million, compared with $1.62 million in the year-ago period. Same-store sales rose 6.9%.  
  • Serving big men yields big results at DXL

    Clothes aren’t the only thing big at Destination XL as evidenced by a double digit third quarter comp increase aided by omnichannel integration.  

    Sales at Destination XL increased 5% to $93.6 million, compared with $88.7 million in the prior-year quarter. Same store sales increased 5.5%.
