  • Subway to add 2,500 locations in 2012

    New York City -- Subway Restaurants plans to add 2,500 restaurants in 2012, according to a report on QSRweb.com.

    In 2011, Subway opened more than 2,100 locations, including 1,000 new units in the United States and Canada.  A big part of the chain's growth came from nontraditional spaces such as convenience stores, department stores, train stations, museums, hotel lobbies and movie theaters, the report said.
     

  • Panda Express debuts Panda Dry Cleaning format

    New York City -- The owners of the Panda Express fast-food chain, Andrew and Peggy Cherng, have partnered with Procter & Gamble, whose products include Tide laundry detergent, to open a dry cleaning chain, Panda Dry Cleaning, according to the Los Angeles Times.

    The new concept made its debut under the Tide Dry Cleaners banner in Henderson, Nev., and as many as 200 franchised locations nationwide are planned for the next five years.

  • EPA approves three alternative refrigerants to replace HFCs

    Washington, D.C. -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has added three hydrocarbons as acceptable alternatives in small commercial refrigerators and freezers through EPA’s Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) program.

  • Forever 21 expands Willow Grove Park presence

    Philadelphia -- Forever 21 recently relocated and expanded to a two-story location in the newly developed wing at Willow Grove Park, located in eastern Montgomery County just north of Philadelphia. The mall is owned and operated by Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust.

  • Streetsense designs new La Madeleine prototype

    Bethesda, Md. -- Archiecture and design firm Streetsense said Monday it has created an all-new interior design scheme for La Madeleine French Country Cafe, a national chain of French-themed fast-casual restaurants.

    A 1,194-sq.-ft. restaurant using the new prototype design is now open at Northpark Center in Dallas, while another is under construction in Tulsa, Okla. La Madeleine also has engaged Streetsense to design two new stores planned for the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region, one in Tysons Corner, Va., and one in Silver Spring, Md.

  • Carlo Pazolini and Ermenegildo Zegna join Mall at Short Hills

    Short Hills, N.J. -- The Mall at Short Hills, located in Short Hills, N.J., announced that Carlo Pazolini and Ermenegildo Zegna have joined the mall’s tenant roster. 

    Luxury menswear retailer Ermenegildo Zegna opened on the upper level near Neiman Marcus. 

    Carlo Pazolini has located on the lower level near Macy’s, and will present Carlo Pazolini, Carlo Pazolini Couture and Adami collections.

  • Three New Leases signed at Granada Village

    Granada Hills, Calif. -- Jacksonville, Fla.-based Regency Centers said that it has leased 7,083 sq. ft. of retail space in Granada Hills, Calif., among three new tenants at Granada Village.

    Carter’s leased 3,866 sq. ft., and hair salon Fantastic Sams leased 1,217 sq. ft.  Both are slated to open for business in March 2012. Opening in second quarter 2012, Freebirds World Burrito has leased 2,000 sq. ft. of restaurant space.

  • Morton's steakhouse chain acquired by restaurant veteran

    New York City -- A Friday report by Reuters said that restaurant veteran Tilman Fertitta has added to his restaurant holdings by reaching a $117 million deal for Morton's Restaurant Group Inc., which operates high-end steakhouses nationwide.

    Fertitta, who expanded his stake from in Morton’s from the 5% he already held, has outlined plans to modernize the struggling chain.

    This latest deal marks Fertitta’s second acquisition in two months, as in November he acquired seafood chain McCormick & Schmick's.
