EPA ranks Whole Foods Market top green-power purchaser among retailers
Washington, D.C. Whole Foods Market topped the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Partnership list of retailers that purchase the most renewable energy. Kohl’s Department Stores ranked second, Wal-Mart came in third, followed by Starbucks and Staples.
The Green Power Partnership works with more than 1,100 partner organizations to voluntarily purchase green power to reduce the environmental impacts of conventional electricity use. The purchase figures are based on annualized partner contract amounts (kilowatt-hours), not calendar year totals. These rankings are updated on a quarterly basis.
