  • Macy’s tops among specialty retailers in Digital IQ Index

    New York City -- Macy’s took the top spot in the annual Digital IQ Index, which ranks retailers according to their online competence. The index measured the digital footprint of 64 brands via 350 data points across four dimensions: Site, Digital Marketing, Social Media, and Mobile. Based on these scores, each brand was assigned a Digital IQ and a corresponding class of Genius, Gifted, Average, Challenged, or Feeble.

  • Study: 'Connected' consumers shop, recommend favorite retailers more often

    SAN MATEO, Calif. — New data released Friday by Motista suggests that retailers should look beyond the traditional set of holiday emotions, such as family and giving, to understand what’s really motivating consumers to spend more. The data also revealed different ways in which men and women interact and connect with retailers, which may be useful as retailers plan their holiday marketing campaigns.

  • Walmart aerobrushes up its beauty department

    NEW YORK  — Classified Cosmetics announced that it has launched a line of aerobrush products at select Walmart stores and Walmart.com.

    The Aero Minerale line at Walmart  includes a 5-in-1-makeup primer that preps the brows, lids, lashes, face and lips with a quick 2-second spray. According to the company, the Aero Minerale Hydrating Mineral Primer can also transform any powdered shadow into a dramatic, versatile cream.

  • Burlington Coat Factory to open small-format store in Charlotte

    Charlotte, N.C. -- X Team International, an international alliance of retail real estate advisors, said that Charlotte, N.C.-based partner The Chambers Group has completed a lease for the first small-format Burlington Coat Factory store in Charlotte.

    Scheduled to open Oct. 1 at Woodlawn Marketplace, the smaller format store will be roughly 48,000 sq. ft. and joins T.J. Maxx and Family Dollar.
     

  • Italian brand to makes U.S. retail debut

    New York City -- Italian handbag maker Piero Guidi will open its first retail location in the United States, in New York City’s Soho district. The Soho store will be the company's fourth standalone store outside of Italy, following openings in China, Japan and Hong Kong.

  • Sears engages social media for charitable campaign

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill.  — Sears announced that it is inviting Facebook users to support to America's military members by fan voting for the Sears Rebuilding Together affiliate program that they believe is the most deserving. 

    Voting will take place through Sept. 23, and based on total vote tallies, Sears and Rebuilding Together will award 25 overall grants totaling $250,000 to Rebuilding Together affiliates at platinum, gold, silver and bronze levels.

  • PacSun deploys Global Bay in-store iPad retailing app

    South Plainfield, N.J. -- Global Bay Mobile Technologies, a provider of mobile retail software, announced the deployment of its iPad Retailing solution in 300 Pacific Sunwear stores nationwide. The chain plans to implement the solution in an additional 100 stores by yearend.
