Amazon, Home Depot get early start on Memorial Day promotions
Two major Tier I retailers aren’t waiting around to offer deals for the unofficial kickoff to summer.
Amazon and Home Depot are both currently running Memorial Day sales well in advance of the official Memorial Day holiday (Monday, May 26). Following are brief overviews of each promotion and how they fit into broader springtime marketing efforts.
Amazon
In an email to Chain Store Age, an Amazon spokesperson said the online giant’s Memorial Day sale is live through the holiday, Monday, May 26. Throughout the event, shoppers can save up to 35% off a selection of deals from national brands in categories including sports and outdoor equipment, garden and patio products, furniture, fashion and beauty, appliances, and TVs and electronics.
Amazon’s Memorial Day extravaganza also includes limited-time offers exclusively for members of its Prime paid subscription service.
Spring has become a major promotional season for Amazon, which hosted a weeklong Memorial Day sale in 2024. So far in spring 2025, Amazon’s seasonal promotions have included a 48-hour Pet Day sale, a Mother’s Day Shop and its second annual Big Spring Sale that celebrated the beginning of spring in late March.
Amazon is also currently running a dedicated Father’s Day Shop storefront on its site through Sunday, June 15 (Father’s Day).

Home Depot
Home Depot also notified Chain Store Age via email that it is hosting a Memorial Day sale. The home improvement giant’s holiday event is running online and in-store through Wednesday, May 28 and features exclusive discounts on items in categories such as outdoor lighting, soil, plants, barbecue products, and garden tools.
With spring marking the time many consumers launch home improvement projects, Home Depot has always treated it as a major promotional opportunity. The retailer hosted its annual omnichannel "Spring Black Friday" sale in the first half of April, offering discounts on products commonly used for spring projects.
Home Depot also offered exclusive one-day-only deals through its Spring Deal Days event which took place in late April and early May, and in conjunction with the first official day of spring (March 20) released its online "What Are You Working On? – Spring Project Report," which provides a look at the top spring projects across all 50 states.
