Newegg introduces conversational AI shopping, ChatGPT app
Newegg Commerce Inc. is integrating advanced artificial intelligence capabilities into its shopping experience.
The online technology product retailer is unveiling a full conversational AI shopping experience on its site. Through this new AI mode, Newegg customers can describe what they're looking for in plain language and refine through conversation – such as asking the AI assistant to swap a part, adjust the shopping budget, or prioritize a different specification, without restarting the search.
The assistant surfaces product suggestions as the conversation develops, with items customers select to add to their cart remaining accessible from a side panel within the experience. Recommendations draw from Newegg's live catalog, including current pricing, real-time inventory and deals, and is planned to integrate directly with Newegg's proprietary build tools such as PC Builder.
Newegg also offers a conversational AI on-page assistant available from any page on its e-commerce site. The on-page assistant focuses on product questions, compatibility checks and deal guidance as customers browse products.
"Tech shopping involves a lot of reasoning about specs, trade-offs, budget, fit, with what you already own,” said Jim Tseng, VP of Newegg product management. “Our new AI assistant is built to think through all of that the way an experienced tech friend would, surfacing the right options, and staying with you from the first question all the way to checkout, without you ever leaving the conversation,”

Newegg is also releasing an app for ChatGPT that integrates its catalog with the agentic AI platform, featuring the same live pricing, inventory, and deals. Customers can open the ChatGPT Newegge connector, mention Newegg, and shop in conversational language.
Shoppers can then tap “checkout with Newegg” and their cart will open on the Newegg site pre-loaded with the final secure payment step happening there. Additional AI platform integrations are in development.
Newegg has been leveraging ChatGPT functionality in its shopping experience since 2023, when the retailer started using the agentic AI model for its PC Builder shopping tool and to optimize text content throughout its website, as well as to transform customer service chat, customer email subject lines, and search engine optimization.

The conversational shopping experience and the on-page assistant are available now to all visitors on the desktop mobile Newegg site. Personalized recommendations and saved chat history are available to signed-in Newegg account holders.
