Korean eyewear brand Breezm debuts U.S. try-on app

Breezm is offering virtual eyewear try-on.

A Seoul-based custom-fit eyewear retailer is letting U.S. consumers design and order glasses engineered to their unique face shape.

Breezm is launching a new iPhone app in the U.S., "Breezm: Eyewear Made for You." Through the app, customers can complete a guided facial scan with their phone to capture precise measurements. Then an artificial intelligence-based fit finder tool analyzes facial structure and proportions to identify frame styles optimized for balance, comfort, and lightweight wearability.

App users can customize more than 80 frame styles and select from a range of colors and finishes and select from a range of prescription and non-prescription lenses. Custom-fit eyeglasses are made on demand with Breezm’s in-house 3D printing and laser-cutting process and delivered directly to the customer. Every order is backed with a 45-day satisfaction guarantee.

“For decades, people have been told that discomfort is just part of wearing glasses,” said Zenma Hyungjin Park, co-founder and co-CEO of Breezm. “But faces aren’t symmetrical, and eyewear shouldn’t be built for an ‘average’ face. At Breezm, we design every frame around the individual, so glasses feel lighter, fit better, and disappear into daily life. And now our app allows us to deliver that same experience to customers all over the U.S.”

Breezm operates a network of 15 stores in South Korea, including a smart factory in Seoul where customers can see frames being 3D-printed in real time. In 2024, Breezm opened its New York City flagship, its first store outside of Korea.

"The U.S. has always been central to Breezm’s vision," said Silja Kim Bast, chief business development officer at Breezm. "Over the past two years in New York City, we’ve seen just how many people struggle with glasses that simply don’t fit — frames that slide, pinch or feel uncomfortable no matter how stylish they are. Launching nationwide means we can finally meet that demand and serve customers across the country, wherever they are. Because everyone deserves glasses that fit well — and look good."

Virtual try-on proves popular with eyewear retailers

A number of eyewear retailers have rolled out a variety of virtual try-on solutions that employ artificial intelligence and AR technologies to let customers see how certain frames would look on their face using a photo of themselves.

For example, Tom Ford Fashion recently rolled out a virtual glasses try-on solution enabling customers in the U.S. and Canada to experiment with a selection of sunglasses in real time using any standard web browser. Users can see how different eyewear styles suit them on a screen using the 3D AR technology.

Omnichannel eyewear brand Warby Parker recently partnered with digital creative agency Kettle to roll out Advisor, a mobile AI solution which delivers tailored recommendations based on a face scan in the Warby Parker app. Other solutions  include the brand’s augmented reality-based Virtual Try-On and custom frame fitting iOS app features.

Walmart introduced virtual try-on and purchase of prescription eyewear online through the Walmart app or directly on Walmart.com in February 2024, and more recently expanded the assortment of glasses available for virtual try-on.

Meanwhile, GlassesUSA offers new proprietary artificial intelligence solution called "Pairfect Match AI" that is designed to seamlessly match customers with the perfect pair of glasses.
