  • Office Depot gets its Christmas on early with holiday app

    Retailers can use apps for more than just driving sales, as demonstrated by Office Depot Inc.’s latest mobile move.

    The Office Depot and OfficeMax parent company is re-releasing its Elf Yourself mobile app. The app, which Office Depot has offered every holiday season since 2012 and launched as an online platform in 2006, is a prime example of how retailers are using apps to build positive consumer sentiment and brand awareness.

  • Amazon’s Black Friday store is already open

    Amazon.com is not waiting until Black Friday or even Thanksgiving Week to launch its deepest holiday discounts.

    The e-commerce giant announced Monday that its Black Friday Deals store is now officially open. In addition, this year Prime members can access more than 30,000 Lightning Deals 30 minutes early, giving Prime members special, early access to deals.

    Capping off a partnership during the month of October with DeGeneres to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research, Ulta CEO Mary Dillon appeared on the popular talk show and presented the host with a $2 million check made out to the Breast Cancer Reseach Foundation.

    A new e-commerce integration will empower online retailers to sell goods directly through Instagram.

    Springbot, an e-commerce marketing platform designed for online stores, has integrated with Instagram to allow the creation of customized shopping pages through a Magento or Shopify merchant’s Instagram profile. Springbot already provides the tracking of revenue attribution for retailers on Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter.

  • Fifth straight quarter of comp growth for Build-A-Bear Workshop

    Build-A-Bear Workshop logged an increase in same-store sales in the third quarter even as the company enters what is historically its most profitable season.

    Same-store sales at the specialty retailer increased 2.1% in the third quarter ended Oct. 3. This was the fifth consecutive quarter it grew same-store sales.
