Amazon is appealing to readers with its newest sales event.
Amazon is going back to its roots in what is becoming a very busy month for targeted sales blockbusters at the e-tail giant.
The company says it is kicking off the summer reading season with its inaugural Amazon Book Sale, running Wednesday, May 15 to Monday May 20, 2024 on a dedicated page on the Amazon e-commerce site, with early deals starting Friday, May 10. Amazon opened for business as an online book store in 1994 and says it has a "a mission to inspire customers to read more."
The event is open to all customers, although members of the Amazon Prime paid membership program will receive some extra savings opportunities. Discounts will be offered across all genres, including up to 50% off print best sellers and up to 80% off Amazon Kindle e-books.
Physical books will be available for fast, free delivery, while Amazon Kindle e-books and Amazon Audible audio books will be available for immediate download after purchase. Amazon is also offering its lowest price on its Kindle Scribe e-reader device and offering a free three-month trial of its Kindle Unlimited e-book subscription program.
"Whether you’re hooked on romantasy, craving an adventure story, or eager to dive into a thoughtful biography, this new shopping event features books to delight, inspire or educate every reader this summer," Amazon said in a corporate blog post.

Amazon expands special sales promotions
Amazon continues to build on its offerings of limited-time discount events, often targeted to a specific customer interest or season. The Summer Beauty Haul, which runs concurrently with the Amazon Book sale May 13-19, is the third of what are now four special Amazon promotions occurring partially or totally in May 2024, following Amazon Gaming Week which was held April 30 – May 5 and Amazon Pet Day which is coming up May 7-8.
These two events are also open to all shoppers, as were Amazon’s fall Holiday Beauty Haul and Black Friday – Cyber Monday promotion, although both offered extra perks to Prime members.
In addition, Amazon held its recent first-ever Big Spring Sale, which was open to all customers and focused on warm-weather and seasonal items such as spring fashion, outdoor furniture, lawn and garden essentials, and cleaning and organizing products., as well as select Amazon products.
The e-tailer also just announced it will host its annual Prime Day extravaganza, which basically kicked off the trend of online sales blockbusters, in July. Prime Day, along with the Prime Big Deal Days sale which is typically held in October, is restricted to members of its paid Prime membership program (although non-members could qualify with a 30-day free trial).
