  • The Walmart wildcard in Target’s guidance game

    Target is set to report February same-store sales this Thursday and offer the first data point of the new fiscal year in which same-store sales are forecast to increase in the range of 4% to 5%. For February, the company has forecast a low single-digit increase and last week in conjunction with the release of fourth-quarter results confirmed it was on track to meet the low single-digit number.

  • Report: Toys ‘R’ Us considers $800 million IPO for April

    Wayne, N.J. -- A New York Post report on Saturday said that Toys “R” Us is considering an initial public offering in April to raise around $800 million, although a final decision has not been reached.

    The retailer shelved IPO plans in 2010; it has not commented on the latest report that IPO talks have resurfaced.

  • The Knot repurchases shares from Macy's

    NEW YORK -- The Knot,  a media company devoted to weddings, nesting and babies, announced that it had repurchased all shares in the company owned by Macy’s Inc.

  • VeriFone to supply its PAYware Merchant card payment service for Latin America McDonald's restaurant operations

    San Jose, Calif. -- VeriFone Systems announced it has won a contract to supply its PAYware Merchant card payment and settlement hosted service to Arcos Dorados, the largest restaurant operator in Latin America and the largest McDonald's franchisee in the world.

    Beginning with 220 McDonald’s restaurants in Argentina and Uruguay, PAYware Merchant will be integrated with a proprietary POS system to accommodate card payment processing at the point of sale.

  • DCP, Nordstrom celebrate 45th anniversary of 'it's a small world'

    SEATTLE -- Disney Consumer Products has partnered with Nordstrom to launch a new line of children's apparel, accessories and footwear in honor of the 45th anniversary of the "it's a small world" attraction at Disneyland. 

  • Luxottica Q4 profit up 88%

    New York City -- Luxottica Group SpA said Monday its fourth-quarter net profit rose 88%. The Milan, Italy-based parent of the Sunglass Hut and Lens Crafters chains predicted a strong 2011 as consumers return to high-end brands.

    The company said its net profit increased to €55.1 million ($75.8 million) in the final three months of 2010.

    Luxottica will continue to expand its Sunglass Hut division in 2011, and expects to add 270 Sunglass Hut locations globally.

  • Office Depot launches sustainable lamp line

     BOCA RATON, Fla.-- Office Depot announced that it has launched a new line of energy-efficient lamps under the “Realspace” brand. The full range of Realspace lighting is available at more than 1,100 Office Depot retail store locations across the country and online at www.officedepot.com.

    According to the company, all Realspace lighting is California Compliant, with each lamp packaged with a low energy light-bulb. The Realspace Collection also offers an assortment of LED lamps, which are 70%more efficient than using incandescent bulbs.

  • Best Buy levels appliance playing field

    Home Depot, Lowe’s and Sears offer free delivery and installation of major appliances, and now Best Buy does too. The company this week announced what it declared was an industry-leading combination of free delivery along with an 18 months same-as-cash financing offer to spark interest in the appliance category.
