  • DCP, Nordstrom celebrate 45th anniversary of 'it's a small world'

    SEATTLE -- Disney Consumer Products has partnered with Nordstrom to launch a new line of children's apparel, accessories and footwear in honor of the 45th anniversary of the "it's a small world" attraction at Disneyland. 

  • Office Depot launches sustainable lamp line

     BOCA RATON, Fla.-- Office Depot announced that it has launched a new line of energy-efficient lamps under the “Realspace” brand. The full range of Realspace lighting is available at more than 1,100 Office Depot retail store locations across the country and online at www.officedepot.com.

    According to the company, all Realspace lighting is California Compliant, with each lamp packaged with a low energy light-bulb. The Realspace Collection also offers an assortment of LED lamps, which are 70%more efficient than using incandescent bulbs.

    Home Depot, Lowe’s and Sears offer free delivery and installation of major appliances, and now Best Buy does too. The company this week announced what it declared was an industry-leading combination of free delivery along with an 18 months same-as-cash financing offer to spark interest in the appliance category.

  • New Sears CEO compensation put at $7.2 million -- plus commuting costs

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. -- Sears Holdings Corp. in a regulatory filing on Friday reported that its newly named CEO Louis J. D'Ambrosio will be compensated $7.2 million and a charter airplane for his commute from Pennsylvania to Illinois, as calculated and reported by the Associated Press.

    D’Ambrosio will also be eligible for a bonus of up to $2 million, according to the report.

  • Safeway gets new loyalty chief to manage mobile migration

    PLEASANTON, Calif. -- Safeway Monday announced the promotion of Mir Aamir to president customer loyalty and digital technologies, reporting to Diane Dietz, EVP, chief marketing officer. In this new role, Mir will lead Safeway's loyalty programs and oversee digital and mobile efforts related to loyalty. He will also continue to be responsible for marketing strategies, shopper analytics and insights, club card strategies and pricing.

  • Best Buy offers free delivery, 18-month no-interest financing on appliances

    Minneapolis -- Best Buy Co. announced it will free delivery and no interest financing if paid in full within 18 months on all appliance purchases over $429.

  • Cleaned up credit portfolio makes for attractive acquisition

    Target’s credit card portfolio is looking a whole lot more attractive to potential acquirers following improvements in the delinquency rates, risk profile and strong profit growth.

    Fourth-quarter operating profit in the credit card segment increased 287% to $151 million compared with $39 million in the fourth quarter the prior year. For the full year, credit card segment profits advanced 169% to $541 million compared with $201 million the prior year.

  • NRF to Federal Reserve: Swipe card fee cap doesn't go far enough

    WASHINGTON — The National Retail Federation last week responded to the Federal Reserve's proposal to cap debit card swipe fees at 12 cents per transaction.
