  • Study – Omnichannel retailers win Cyber Week; growing demand for in-store pickup

    San Luis Obispo, Calif. - Omnichannel retailers that provide cross-channel offers to their customers are the big winners emerging from this year’s “Cyber Week.” Data from Shopatron shows that forcing customers into buying frenzies on specific days is losing favor, and that retailers who focus on meeting cross-channel consumer demand with ever increasing levels of service are realizing the benefits.

    Vera Bradley has announced a new head of store development as it looks to reimagine Vera Bradley into a premium global lifestyle brand.

    Harry Cunningham, who has nearly 25 years of experience in store design and visual merchandising, has been with Saks Fifth Avenue since 2006 and most recently held the post of SVP of Store Planning, Design and Visual Merchandising. Prior to that, Cunningham held various visual merchandising roles at Liz Claiborne, Saks Department Store Group and Dillard's.

  • Ikea taps Inovateus Solar to expand solar array on Detroit-area store

    CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. - Ikea plans to increase the solar array atop its store that opened eight years ago in Canton, Michigan. In September, IKEA began work on a 44,000-sq.-ft. expansion to the store, atop which new panels will be installed beginning spring 2015, with a completion by summer.

  • Report: Wal-Mart CEO says 10% of mobile orders are in-store


    Bentonville, Ark.– While some retailers worry about mobile “showrooming” damaging in-store sales, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. welcomes brick-and-mortar shoppers with mobile devices. In an interview with CNBC, Wal-Mart CEO Doug McMillon said 10% of Wal-Mart’s mobile orders come from customers inside its stores.

  • Walgreens sales up 4.9% despite new generics

    Despite revenue losses from the introduction of new generic drugs, Walgreens announced that same store sales grew 4.5% in November, with total sales, including stores open less than a year, also increasing 4.9% from last year.

    The company posted November sales of $6.4 billion, an increase of 4.9% from the prior year. Same store sales across the pharmacy increased by 6.7% and front-end same-store sales were up 0.8%.

    CHELMSFORD, Mass. - Chicago-area Stratford Square Mall is relying on Axis Communications’ network cameras to protect public safety and minimize shoplifting during the holiday shopping season. Along with an increase in sales, the holiday season can also bring an increase in merchandise shrink, adding more incentive for mall managers to have eyes throughout the facility.

  • Shoppers prefer mobile devices over store employees, in-store info

    ARLINGTON, Va. - More than half (58%) of shoppers who use mobile devices say they prefer to look up information on their devices while shopping, rather than talk to store employees – especially among men and shoppers aged 25-44 - according to a new by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). Additionally, 62%  of mobile shoppers indicate they perceive the information they gather via their mobile device as more beneficial than the information available in-store via product displays or sales literature.
