  • Citi throws hat into digital wallet ring

    The digital wallet landscape is heating up once again as Citibank prepares to introduce its mobile wallet.  
  • With FedEx’s help, Newegg expands it online order pick-up game

    To compete with Amazon’s pickup points and lockers, Newegg now offers order pickup service across more than 2,500 locations.   While most online shoppers ship items to their homes, a growing number of people prefer the security and convenience of retrieving their packages at a store or retail location. Through a partnership with FedEx, Newegg shoppers can now order and pick-up packages at more than 2,500 FedEx locations throughout the United States, including 1,800 FedEx Office retail stores.   
  • Report: Almost two-thirds of shoppers plan to skip Cyber Monday

    While a majority of shoppers are ready to shop online this holiday season, many will sit out Cyber Monday this year.   This detail was highlighted in “Computop 2016 Holiday Shopping Study.” Computop’s report, which is based on responses from over 1,900 consumers across the United States and UK, found that 76% planned to shop online this holiday season. However, 62% of those respondents don’t plan to shop on Cyber Monday, noting it doesn’t offer the deals it used to previously.  
  • Zappos ups the ante on holiday shopping with price matching

    Eager to keep early omnichannel holiday shoppers from “shopping around, Zappos.com unveiled introduced its “price promise” program.   The program, which launched on Oct. 31 and runs through Nov. 20, uses software to automatically price match the site’s most popular products with those found on qualifying online competitors’ sites.   
  • Report: Nearly half of retailers falling behind in omnichannel efforts

    Omnichannel adoption is a prerequisite to remain relevant in today’s retail world. Yet, many retailers are still missing the mark.   That is the message delivered in “Five Insights into the Omnichannel Landscape,” a benchmark report from eTail East and WBR Digital.  The study reveals progress among multiple retail sectors, including specialty retail, apparel, and high-end fashion apparel, among others.  
  • Toys ‘R’ Us taps Priceline.com vet for digital engineering

    In a move to spur its digital transformation, Toys “R” Us has appointed Amit Poddar to head up its digital engineering team.   Poddar is joining the toy retailer as senior VP, chief software architect. The addition is the latest strategic move within the company’s massive digital transformation, a project that is focused on integrating technology into every part of the business, and creating a more customer-centric operation.   
  • Dollar General to debut convenience-store format

    Dollar General is planning to unveil a smaller-store concept designed around convenience.   The new format, reportedly to be called DGX,  is due to open in early 2017, with a unit in downtown Nashville, and another in Raleigh, North Carolina.       
  • eBay launches holiday campaign

    eBay is the latest retailer to get into the holiday spirit with a campaign that transcends television, online and its mobile app.
