  • Survey: Holiday shopping starts early, online

    Phoenix – Holiday shopping often starts earlier than commonly thought and also frequently being online. According to a new survey of more than 1,000 U.S. consumers from G/O Digital, 62% of respondents go straight to search engines when researching gifts for the holiday season and more than three-quarters look online for holiday shopping deals and discounts.

    Lane Bryant is taking a non-student approach to back-to-school marketing with its third annual Chalk it up to Style promotion.

    Now through Aug. 31, teachers and supporting school staff who shop at Lane Bryant during Chalk it up to Style will enjoy saving 15% off their purchase when shopping in store with a valid school ID or paystub.

    Seattle — A new report from MSLGROUP and the Hartman Group is underscoring grocers’ need to appeal to millennial shoppers in unique ways. The report, Food Shopping in America found that one of the youngest and constantly connected consumer groups is also a tough nut to crack — simultaneously impulsive, thrifty and wary of inauthentic marketing.  
     

  • Macys hits the runway

    New York -- Macy's is planning a catwalk show of its own to close out the biggest fashion week of the year.

    The retailer announced that it will host “Macy’s Presents Fashion’s Front Row” on Sept. 17 in New York City, featuring celebrities, musical acts and a runway show.

  • Target gets an A+ for new deal with Aldo

    Target is teaming up with Canadian footwear chain Aldo on a new range of shoes and accessories, according to a report from Footwear News.

    The publication says the new collection will be called A+, is inspired by the Aldo brand, and will launch at all Target stores this month. 

    In addition to partnerships with Stride Rite and Steve Madden, the publication says Target will continue to explore other shoe partnerships.

    Aldo Group operates 1,900 stores in 94 countries.

    The retailer presented its inaugural A Day of Beauty event at the Music City Center, Davidson Ballroom, in downtown Nashville, on Aug. 8.

  • Whole Foods taps into craft beer market

    Whole Foods, which is known for luxurious produce departments and an exhaustive assortment of natural foods, is adding "brewery" to its list of offerings.

    The grocery chain has been opening brewpubs at select stores throughout the U.S. The beers have been so popular with shoppers that the retailer plans to distribute one of its beers to all of its Texas stores starting in September.
