  • Wahl searches for 'dirty dogs' for shelter awareness

    STERLING, Ill. — Personal care products manufacturer Wahl and Petfinder.com have teamed up in honor of National Dog Adoption Month with a unique pet photo contest to support America's shelters.

    According to Petfinder.com Foundation, more than eight million animals are placed in shelters annually, but only half of them ever get adopted. The number of dogs adopted is lowest in the months of October, November and December.

  • Degree Women, sports broadcaster Andrews celebrate strong women

    ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. — Sports broadcaster Erin Andrews has partnered with Unilever’s Degree Women deodorant to celebrate "Unapologetically Strong" women who aren’t afraid to test their limits and push boundaries.

    Andrews will share her Unapologetically Strong story on Facebook and encourage others to accomplish their own personal triumphs.

  • Neiman Marcus in search of Cusp blogger

    DALLAS — Neiman Marcus is looking to build on its Cusp brand with the help of a fashion blogger. The company has launched a contest to find the perfect blogger that embodies the Cusp sensibility.

    Neiman Marcus first launched the Cusp brand in 2006 with two freestanding stores that offered customers a contemporary assortment including apparel, shoes, handbags and accessories in a boutique environment.  The brand has grown over time to include a total of six Cusp stores, Cusp.com and integration into the forty-two Neiman Marcus stores.

  • Smuckers, Yamaguchi team up for photo contest

    ORRVILLE, Ohio — Smuckers brand Uncrustables has teamed up with Olympic Gold Medal Figure Skater, Kristi Yamaguchi, for the Unstoppable Family Photo Contest. The winner will receive $15,000 check toward an unstoppable family adventure and a year's supply of Uncrustables sandwiches.

    From now through Nov. 1, parents can go to www.uncrustables.com to submit a photo showing where their families enjoy Smucker's Uncrustables sandwiches in their unstoppable family adventures with a brief caption.

    The defining paradox of our industry is that closing stores has become a trademark of successful retail companies. Certainly healthy retailers are opening new stores; but shuttering locations has become the norm as well and, in most instances, is equally indicative of positive growth.

  • IBM report: Consumers defer back-to-school shopping in favor of home-related purchases

    Armonk, N.Y. -- Study results released Tuesday by IBM revealed that while U.S. consumers shopped this July and August, they were not buying clothes and notebooks for their children but rather items for the home.

    According to IBM’s findings, the biggest retail gains this back-to-school shopping season came from home goods purchases which increased 30% in July and more than 25% in August over their respective months in 2012.
