  • Many Americans believe private-label products are high quality

    CHICAGO — It seems that private-label brands are getting a sterling reputation among shoppers.

    According to new research by Mintel, consumers have taken notice of private-label companies' "better-for-you" products and attractive packaging, as 44% of grocery shoppers believe store-brand products are of better quality today than they were five years ago. What's more, 39% of respondents said they would recommend purchasing a store-brand product.

  • Sherwin-Williams launches paint line with HGTV

    CLEVELAND -- Sherwin-Williams announced that it is partnered with the lifestyle television network HGTV to launch "HGTV HOME by Sherwin-Williams," an exclusive line of interior paint and painting supplies in the second quarter of 2011. The licensing partnership includes eight unique color collections, durable and low-odor paint manufactured by Sherwin-Williams, as well as an array of smart tools designed to help consumers enjoy the perfect painting experience, the company reported.

  • Fresh & Easy bag design winner revealed

    EL SEGUNDO, Calif.  -- Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market announced that it has debuted the winning design from its first-ever Design-A-Bag contest in its stores this week. The new reusable bag retails for only 79 cents and has already been a big hit with customers with thousands already sold. The bag's creative design was hand-drawn by Los Angeles resident Josephine Close, who received a year's worth of free groceries for winning the contest.

  • Goody's Modern Organica line coming to Target

    ATLANTA - Hair accessories brand Goody is gearing up for spring with the launch of its new Modern Organica collection, exclusively available at Target next month.

    This season, headbands comprised of shells and barrettes dressed in colorful knits will help beauty mavens get back on-trend while staying true to their roots. Mother of pearl embellishments provide a feminine feature, while earth stones and nature-inspired designs add a glamorous touch.

  • Apple reports record revenue for Q1

    CUPERTINO, Calif. -- Apple announced that for its first quarter ended Dec. 25, 2010, it posted record revenue of $26.74 billion and record net quarterly profit of $6 billion, or $6.43 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $15.68 billion and net quarterly profit of $3.38 billion, or $3.67 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter.

  • One Cup: An eco-friendly answer to disposable cups

    LOS ANGELES — Looking to offer a greener option for users of Styrofoam and noncompostable insulated cups, Repurpose Compostables has launched a new insulated hot cup that is 100% compostable.

    One Cup requires no sleeve, uses 65% less carbon dioxide than a traditional cup and can be composted in 90 days, the company said. The insulated cups also feature Ingeo-based lining, which eliminates the need for "double cupping," to assure the beverage, and not the drinker's hands, stay hot.
