  • Giant Food gives customers Healthy Ideas

    LANDOVER, Md. — Giant Food is helping customers stick to their New Year resolutions by emphasizing its product labeling system.

    Healthy Ideas, which initially launched in January 2009, identifies healthy options for customers as they shop the aisles, and includes both perishable and nonperishable items, as well as private-label and national brands.

    The largest retailer most people have never heard of — The Army & Air Force Exchange Service, or AAFES — has updated its store brand identity and design. The brand is now simply called the Exchange and has a new tagline, “You Save, We Give Back,” that conveys the organization’s competitive prices and mission to provide annual dividends to the Army’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation and Air Force Services programs.

  • National Hardware Show to shine brighter light on seasonal

    The Seasonal area of the National Hardware Show is in for a boost, according to the show organizers, who point to a growing emphasis on holiday décor and lawn-and-garden-related merchandise around the industry.

    The Seasonal area will be expanded to include hundreds of the industry's most innovative products during the May 10 to 12 event in Las Vegas, according to organizers. 

  • Best Buy gets into health and fitness

    MINNEAPOLIS - Best Buy announced that it is introducing health and fitness products at 600 Best Buy stores across the country and online at Bestbuy.com. Available products include personal gear related to running, walking, swimming and yoga as well as other fitness accessories.

    Best Buy’s national expansion follows a pilot program launched a year ago, during which the company tested a broad selection of health and fitness gear in 40 stores in select markets.

  • Glee star named spokeswoman for Flirt! Cosmetics

    NEW YORK — Flirt! Cosmetics, which is available exclusively at Kohl's, has teamed up with "Glee" star Heather Morris, who will be the new celebrity style ambassador in support of the brand's spring 2011 product collection.

    Morris will act as ambassador for brands appearing on Flirt!'s website and social networks and will supportx in-store and promotional efforts, including a consumer contest looking for the next "flirtiest performer." The campaign will launch in early 2011.

  • Kmart lowers toy prices to lure last-minute shoppers

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - Kmart announced it will offer last-minute holiday shoppers reduced prices on more than 1,400 must-have toys to help shoppers finish their Christmas lists. In addition to extended store hours, Kmart will offer special deals on toys starting today through Dec. 24.

    Additionally, Kmart said it is offering customers special deals on popular items every kid has on their list. For example, when you purchase toys like Lego, Kung Zhu and remote control cars, deep discounts will be offered on the second purchase.

  • Kmart, Sears launch in-store concept for healthcare fashions

    QUINCY, Mass. - Retailer Work 'N Gear announced that it has teamed up with Sears and Kmart to launch America's first "store-within-a store" concept for healthcare fashions in select locations in six markets.

    Called "Scrubology", the retail concept feature approximately 600 to 1,500 sq. ft. of space within Sears and Kmart stores, dedicated to the uniform needs of professionals who work as doctors, nurses, veterinarians, lab technicians and more.
