  • Walmart marketing to reach unprecedented level this Christmas

    There will be no escaping the long arm of Walmart’s marketing efforts this holiday season as the retail reminds shoppers it has the lowest prices on the broadest assortment of merchandise. Chief merchandising office Duncan Mac Naughton is making sure of that, and on Wednesday he outlined all of the ways the company plans to communicate with shoppers in the months ahead.

  • Dick's Sporting Goods raises breast cancer awareness with new campaign

    PITTSBURGH — Dick's Sporting Goods announced that it is honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month with its "October -- The Power of Pink" campaign supporting the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Throughout October, Dick's Sporting Goods will feature a variety of pink ribbon items in its stores and online at www.DicksSportingGoods.com/pink from top brands including Nike, Reebok, Under Armour, Lady Hagen and MaxFli and is encouraging consumers to join in showing their support for the cause.

  • Staples makes big changes to small business offerings

    FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Staples is looking to appeal to more small business customers by offering an expanded selection of printed products through its Copy & Print service. To further entice these customers, through Nov. 12, the company is offering 30% off all purchases of Copy & Print services of $30 or more produced in store, online or by phone.

    Promotions during September saw mixed outcome with some retailers increasing the number of pages and inserts, while the rest decreased the volume of promotions. The contrasting promotional strategies among the retailers led to the overall change being minimal. 

    Like August, the largest decrease was Lowes, which saw a 61% drop in number of number of pages per market and 54% decline in inserts per market. This was a result of Lowes not having promotions in the second and third week of both August and September.

  • Multiple stores to open at Stirling Bossier

    Bossier City, La. -- Covington, La.-based Stirling Properties, developer and property manager of Stirling Bossier Shopping Center, in Bossier City, La., announced the addition of Old Navy, Ulta Beauty, Maurices, Mattress Firm, The Joint and GNC to the center’s tenant lineup.

  • Uniqlo set to open Fifth Ave. flagship

    New York City -- Uniqlo, the expansion-minded Japanese apparel retailer, on Friday will open its largest store in the world, an 89,000-sq.-ft. flagship on Fifth Avenue. The three-level store reflects the chain’s ambitious designs on the United States and also the changing nature of Fifth Avenue, which is experiencing an influx of moderately-priced retailers.

    Uniqlo is looking to grow its business to $50 billion by 2020. U.S. expansion figures into its strategy.

  • Uniqlo’s Fifth Avenue Flagship Deserves Attention

    Japanese retailer Uniqlo will officially open the doors to its Fifth Avenue global flagship on Friday, Oct. 14. But after a sneak peak of the store, all I can say is “Wow!” At 89,000 sq. ft., Uniqlo is massive — with 100 fitting rooms, 45 checkouts, 100 LCD screens, four glass elevators, and three floors of merchandise. It feels more like a high-tech department store than a specialty store.

  • Uniqlo’s ‘made for all’ style makes its way to Fifth Ave

    NEW YORK — Uniqlo’s NYC flagship may at first seem out of place amongst its Fifth Avenue neighbors, including luxury brands Tiffany & Co., Bergdorf Goodman, Louis Vuitton and Prada, but the location signifies the brand’s “made for all” mantra and its appeal to customers of all income levels.
