July had its fair share of retail real estate development news, tenant updates, property acquisitions and more.
Here are some of the biggest real estate news stories from the month as reported by Chain Store Age (starting with the most recent).
•Major redevelopment set to begin at Arlington's Lincoln Square shopping center Trademark Property Company and Harrison Street Asset Management are set to begin work on Anthem, a transformational redevelopment of Lincoln Square shopping center in Arlington, Texas. Anthem is expected to feature 404,000 square feet of retail, food & beverage, public spaces and entertainment space upon completion, which is scheduled for early 2028.
•Cleveland metro’s Crocker Park wins an Ikea store The Swedish furniture and home decor giant will be occupying an 80,000-sq.-ft. space in the 4.5 million-sq.-ft. mixed-use development. Slated to open next spring, Ikea will join Apple, L.L.Bean, Macy’s Vera Bradley, Toys “R” Us, Arhaus and Nike at Crocker Park.
•New mixed-use project planned for downtown Jacksonville Gateway Jax, the developer of the billion-dollar Pearl Square project in Jacksonville, has announced plans for the first mixed-use residential building in the district. Called Vandeveer, the building will contain 205 residential units as well as 100,000 square feet of Class A office space and more than 200,000 square feet of retail and dining space.
•L.L.Bean, lifestyle tenants highlight future additions to Bluhawk project Bluhawk, the 277-acre master-planned development in Overland Park, Kan., will add L.L.Bean, Spavia Day Spa, Jetset Pilates, Chicken Salad Chick, Brookside Barkery & Bath, Amorino, Everbowl and Bruú Café to its roster, with additional tenants to come. The signings are part of Phase 2 of the project’s development, following the November 2025 groundbreaking. J.Crew Factory, Buckle and Barnes & Noble are now open at the property.
•Placer.ai: Visits to Adidas stores spiked in June during FIFA World Cup Recent data from foot traffic data firm Placer.ai reveals that visits to Adidas stores in the United States increased dramatically as the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicked off. During the week of June 8 – which included the tournament’s June 11 kickoff at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles – Adidas store visits climbed 14.3% year over year.
•Long Beach's Mosaic retail properties sell for $30 million The 148,405-sq.-ft. Mosaic property collection, which spans multiple city blocks in downtown Long Beach, Calif., was purchased for $30 million ($202 per square feet) by Mosaic Promenade Holdings LLC. Tenants include Ross Dress for Less, Studio One Eleven/RDC, Ammatoli, Pacific Dental, Panda Express, Wingstop, GNC, GameStop and more.
•American Dream debuts new event center, performing arts theater The massive retail and entertainment complex in East Rutherford, N.J., has officially opened its new 60,000-sq.-ft. Event Center. The venue can accommodate up to 3,500 guests and features space for more than 300 exhibitor booths and 190 banquet tables. In addition to the Event Center, the Dream Live Performing Arts Center, is a “dynamic, multi-purpose” venue that will host a diverse lineup of entertainment, including concerts, comedy, theater productions, cultural programming, community events, corporate events and live sporting events.
•Pandora, Barnes & Noble, expanded Dillard's to open at Longview Mall Forthcoming retailers at Longview Mall, the 646,000-sq.-ft. enclosed shopping center in Longview, Texas, include Pandora, Barnes & Noble and a Dillard’s Men's Store, expanding Dillard’s current footprint at the property. Pandora is expected to open this fall, while Dillard’s Men's Store and Barnes & Noble will open in spring 2027.
•New Jersey’s Cherry Hill Mall signs six new tenants Crocs, Indochino, Timberland, True Religion, Gorjana, and Aritizia — with its in-store A-OK Café concept — will occupy a total of more than 30,000 square feet of one of the prime properties in PREIT’s portfolio. Other brands that have moved into Cherry Hill Mall in the last two years include Coach, Kendra Scott, Lacoste, Pop Mart, Offline by Aerie, Dr. Martens and Suki Hana.
•DLC names new chief financial, legal and business officer The Elmsford, N.Y.-based owner and operator of open-air shopping centers has named Basil Donnelly as its new chief financial, legal and business officer. He has previously served as senior VP and general counsel, and has been with the company since 2010.
•JLL: Retail investors plan more acquisitions than sales for 2026 Nearly two-thirds (64%) of investors plan to ramp up their retail acquisitions this year, while only 48% expect to sell more, according to JLL's 2026 U.S. Retail Thematic Outlook and Investor Survey. More than half (56%) of those surveyed said they see the market as “mid-cycle,” meaning fundamentals are strong, with rents and occupancy rising.
