Placer.ai: Visits to Adidas stores spiked in June during FIFA World Cup
The 2026 FIFA World Cup led to a boost in economic activity across North American host cities, but one retailer in particular saw a rise in store visits throughout the early stages of the tournament.
New data from foot traffic data firm Placer.ai reveals that visits to Adidas stores in the United States imcreased dramatically as the global soccer event kicked off. During the week of June 8 – which included the tournament’s June 11 kickoff at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles – Adidas store visits climbed 14.3% year over year.
Momentum then accelerated the following week, the first full week of group-stage play, as store visits surged 44.7% year over year.
During the weeks of June 22 and June 29, Placer.ai noted that visits remained elevated, at 24.3% and 20.5% higher than the same weeks in 2025, which suggests that the tournament helped drive a sustained shift in demand.
The report also noted that heading into the spring, Adidas stores were seeing weekly visits run below 2025 levels for most of April, bottoming out at -20.5% year over year the week of April 13. Traffic gradually stabilized through May.

“The World Cup's foot traffic ripple effects extend well beyond the stadiums - into dining, retail, and beyond,” said Maytal Cohen, senior director of marketing insights at Placer.ai. “And while global sponsorships are usually measured in impressions, location intelligence makes them measurable in visits. For Adidas, supplying the match ball and outfitting some of the tournament's biggest teams moved fans into stores, week after week.”
