  • Tesco signs eight-year, global agreement with Microsoft

    Reading, England -- Tesco has committed to the Microsoft platform in an eight year, world-wide agreement. The deal is designed to enable the U.K.-based retailer to improve productivity, decision-making, knowledge sharing and operational excellence across the 14 countries in which it currently operates.

    The agreement will underpin Tesco’s strategic objectives of growing its international presence; expanding its non-food business; and offering a broad selection of retail services such as banking, online and mobile. 
     

  • Report: Apple hires search firm to recruit retail chief

    New York City -- Apple has hired executive search firm Egon Zehnder International to help it find a replacement for its retail head Ron Johnson, according to reports by The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg.

    The reports suggest that in hiring Egon Zehnder, which has offices around the globe, Apple may be looking for an executive with international retail experience. Apple is set to open nearly 30 stores this year outside of the United States.

  • Former FreshDirect exec named Sears chief marketer

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Monica Woo will be joining Sears Holdings as VP and CMO for Sears on Aug. 15. She will be the key executive responsible for directing the overall marketing, brand and advertising programs for Sears.

  • Winn-Dixie to continue rollout of new format

    Apopka, Fla. -- Winn-Dixie said it has opened its fourth new-format grocery store, this one in Central Florida, on Wednesday, as part of its rollout of an enhanced neighborhood market concept.

    The newest store, located in Errol Plaza, is one of 17 planned store remodels. The company expects to invest approximately $5.5 million per store.

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill., and SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Sears Holdings announced that it is reaching out to the growing Latino market with the launch of Facebook.com/SearsLatino as well as its Twitter handle @SearsLatino.

  • Agency chosen for Ikea catalog revamp

    NEW YORK — Ikea announced that it has named McCann NY as its global agency of record for its catalog. According to the company, McCann NY will work with ICOM, Ikea's in-house communications team based at the company's headquarters in Almhult, Sweden.

     McCann NY has been charged with revamping the catalogue by utilizing new technology to create an integrated storytelling experience that includes reimagining the store environment.

  • J.D. Power Study: Lowe’s highest among appliance retailers in customer satisfaction

    Westlake Village, Calif. -- Lowe's ranked highest in customer satisfaction among appliance retailers for a second consecutive year, achieving a score of 807 on a 1,000-point scale, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2011 Appliance Retailer Satisfaction Study. The study measures satisfaction based on performance in six areas: sales staff and service; store facility; merchandise (i.e., variety of brands/models offered and availability of merchandise and product information); price; delivery service; and installation service.

  • Walgreens sees improvement on the front end

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens on Wednesday reported July sales of $5.82 billion, an increase of 4.7%.
