DoorDash launches AI-based app search feature
DoorDash is enabling natural language search in its iOS app.
The on-demand delivery platform is introducing Ask DoorDash, a new artificial intelligence-enabled way for customers to search the app in their own words. Shoppers can tap the “Ask” button in the search bar and tell DoorDash what they want to eat, share a recipe link or cookbook photo, or describe the reservation they’re looking for to get personalized results in seconds.
In addition, customers can leverage Ask DoorDash to reorder their last grocery cart, shop their usuals items, and suggest new items based on their past orders.
"We've spent over a decade building an app that puts everything in your city at your fingertips, but more options shouldn't mean more work,” said Andy Fang, co-founder of DoorDash. “Now you can search DoorDash in your own words to find exactly what you want. And we know if the vegetarian option you prefer is on the menu before recommending a restaurant, or that you recently ordered flour and sugar before stocking up on groceries. The app works harder so you don’t have to.”
Ask DoorDash is available now in select areas on iOS for restaurant search and grocery shopping and is rolling out for the DoorDash Reservations service and to more users across the U.S. in the coming weeks.
DoorDash develops AI tools for consumers
DoorDash has been releasing AI-based solutions for customer use during the past six months. In December 2025, the company released Zesty, a new food discovery app, in the San Francisco Bay area and New York. Zesty provides an AI chatbot that lets customers use natural language prompts to search for and receive personalized recommendations of local restaurants to order food from or visit for table service.
The app displays recommendations on a map of the user’s area. Users can tap recommended locations to obtain information such as hours of operation, physical address, and most popular menu items.
Door Dash has also been beta testing a feature in the Google Gemini agentic AI app for Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S26 series in the U.S. and Korea. With a long press of the power button, users can ask Gemini to reorder their last meal on DoorDash while it works seamlessly in the background, enabling the consumer to keep using their phone.

And in December 2025, DoorDash made its app available within the OpenAI generative AI model ChatGPT to streamline the creation of recipes and purchase of ingredients. Customers can go to their ChatGPT account settings, open the “apps” section, select DoorDash, and log into their DoorDash account.
Once they open a chat, shoppers can toggle DoorDash on using the plus button beside the text field to start using the app in their chat to ask ChatGPT for meal or recipe suggestions in conversational language and receive recipes tailored to their preferences.
