DoorDash adds Kroger to SNAP network; expands in Canada
DoorDash is accepting SNAP/EBT payments for deliveries from the banners of a major grocery conglomerate and increasing its presence and capabilities in Canada.
The on-demand delivery platform is launching Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Benefits (SNAP)/Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) – popularly known as “food stamps” – capabilities at nearly 2,700 Kroger supermarket locations, spanning banners including Mariano’s, Fred Meyer, Ralphs, and Harris Teeter.
With this launch, SNAP-eligible consumers can shop online for products covered by the federal benefit program from Kroger stores and have them delivered through DoorDash.
DoorDash is offering $0 delivery fees on the first order from the Kroger family of brands when consumers pay with an EBT card, for a limited time. DoorDash’s network of stores that accept SNAP/EBT online payments on its marketplace includes more than 35,000 locations of retailers including Schnucks and Dollar General.
“Access to affordable food is fundamental,” said Mike Goldblatt, VP of enterprise partnerships at DoorDash. “This collaboration with Kroger marks an important step forward for SNAP access nationwide. Together, we’re helping millions of consumers shop more conveniently for the groceries their households rely on every day.”
Kroger also partners with Instacart to accept SNAP payments for delivery orders from some banners, and began accepting SNAP payments for its curbside pickup program in 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

DoorDash teams with Empire Co., Lyft in Canada
DoorDash has also been busy north of the U.S. border. The company is rolling out one of its largest grocery expansions in Canada through a new partnership with Empire Company Ltd., bringing more than 1,000 stores across 10 provinces onto its marketplace. This comes as DoorDash says grocery is one of its fastest-growing categories in Canada.
The expansion brings 12 grocery banners from Empire’s portfolio of brands – including Sobeys, Safeway, IGA, FreshCo, Farm Boy, and Longo’s – onto DoorDash. Empire convenience banners like Needs, Boni-Soir, and Voisin are also available.
Consumers have access to nearly 10,000 items available on DoorDash on average per store from Empire brands, including fresh produce, pantry staples, household essentials and pharmacy items. Grocery orders via DoorDash are delivered in under 60 minutes on average from order to drop-off in Canada’s largest five cities, according to the delivery provider.
In addition, DoorDash is expanding a partnership it launched with rideshare platform Lyft in the U.S. in 2024 to let Canadian members of its DashPass paid membership program. DashPass members in Canada can save 50% off one ride (up to $10 off) within 30 days of linking their DashPass and Lyft accounts, ansd also save 5% off on-demand rides and 10% off scheduled airport rides (up to four rides each month), with two priority pickup upgrades each month on an ongoing basis.
Eligible DashPass members can link their Lyft and DoorDash accounts through either app – and once linked, discounts apply automatically upon requesting a ride with no promo codes or extra steps required.
