  • Coco Fresh Tea & Juice opens at Sky View Center

    Queens, N.Y. -- Onex Real Estate Partners said that Taiwanese tea brand Coco Fresh Tea & Juice has opened its newest teashop at Sky View Center, the 800,000-sq.-ft., multi-level regional mall in downtown Flushing, N.Y.

    The 600-sq.-ft. teashop operates a sister location on Main Street, in Flushing.

  • Profits exceed estimates at Target

    MINNEAPOLIS — Profits at Target grew 10.2% to 82 cents in the third quarter compared with 74 cents the prior year thanks to healthy sales growth and ongoing improvement in the company’s credit card business. 

  • Target Q3 profit up 3.7%, beats expectations

    Minneapolis -- Target Corp.’s profit increased a better-than-expected 3.7% in the third quarter to $555 million, up from $535 a year earlier. The retailer’s performance was helped by solid spending and improvement in its credit card business.

    Revenue rose 5.4% to $16.05 billion. Same-store sales were up 4.3% in the quarter.

  • American Express launches Target prepaid card

    New York City -- American Express announced Tuesday that it has launched Target prepaid cards featuring email and text alerts.

    The cards, sold exclusively at Target stores, work like debit cards and can be reloaded with cash, and are usually marketed to lower-income consumers who don't have credit cards or checking accounts. Fees on cards can range widely depending on the issuer.

    High on the list of things that can go wrong with Target’s entry into Canada is Quebec. The large province accounts for about 23% of the nation’s nearly 35 million residents, and because French is the official language, it means Target decision to acquire Zeller’s leases means it is essentially entering two international markets simultaneously.

  • Supply chain challenges loom with smaller stores

    It is a good thing Target has been experimenting with smaller stores in the United States. The experience, limited as it is, will come in handy when the company begins opening stores in former Zellers locations in early 2013.

    Between now and March 2013, when the first Target stores open in Canada, there is a whole lot of heavy lifting to be done at the retailer’s new headquarters in Mississauga, Ontario.

  • Target plans second CityTarget for Los Angeles

    Minneapolis -- Target announced it will open a CityTarget store in the Westwood Market Place, Westwood, Calif., in July 2012. The 98,000- sq.-ft. store will occupy a space that formerly housed Home Depot Expo.

    The Westwood location is the second CityTarget store confirmed in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Target previously announced that it would open a small-format, urban store at Figueroa and 7th in downtown Los Angeles in October 2012.
