  • L.L. Bean, Capital Grille sign Legacy Village leases

    Cleveland - L.L. Bean and The Capital Grille have executed leases at the 610,000-sq.-ft, mixed-use Legacy Village town center. The 16,000-sq.-ft. L.L. Bean store will feature an assortment of active and casual apparel and footwear, outdoor gear including hiking, fly-fishing, kayaking and camping products.

    L.L. Bean will open in the space currently occupied by Talbots, which will be relocating to a new space within the shopping center. This will be L.L. Bean’s 23rd retail store outside of Maine.

    Maine-based L.L. Bean Inc. intends to almost triple its store count by 2020, according to a company memo distributed to employees this month.

  • L.L. Bean to open at least 75 stores by 2020

    Freeport, Maine – L.L. Bean Inc. intends to almost triple its store count by 2020. In an internal company memo distributed Wednesday, March 11, L.L. Bean told employees it will open four stores in 2015 and at least 100 by 2020.

    Currently, L.L. Bean operates 26 stores and 10 outlets in the U.S. The retailer does not have any stores west of Colorado, but plans to open new stores in the Pacific Northwest. All new stores will be full-price locations. The memo was signed by CEO Chris McCormack, who plans to retire in 2016.

  • Legendary retail professor Salmon dies at 84

    Walter J. Salmon, the distinguished Harvard Business School professor who influenced generations of retailers, has died at the age of 84.

    Salmon, long one of the world’s leading experts on retailing, retail distribution, and marketing, who for more than 40 years influenced thousands of students, executives and other academics, was the school’s Stanley Roth Sr. Professor of Retailing Emeritus.

  • Study: L.L. Bean climbs to top of online service in Q4

    New York - L.L. Bean provided the best overall customer service in the fiscal fourth quarter 2014, topping the first quarterly release of Stella Benchmarks. Companies included are part of StellaService’s daily customer care evaluations and weekly product orders.

    Two companies – J.Crew and L.L. Bean – managed to rank in the Top 25 overall every month in 2014. So, it comes as no surprise that those two retailers are at the top of the most recent benchmarks.

  • Target lowers free shipping threshold to $25, undercutting Walmart

    Minneapolis – While some retailers have been raising their spending threshold for free shipping in the past year or so, Target Corp. is taking the opposite approach. Target now offers free shipping for orders of $25 or more. The retailer said the price cut follows an enthusiastic response to its free-shipping offer during the holiday shopping season.

    That is half the $50 minimum Target previously required for free shipping. The free rate applies to standard shipments that take three to five business days to arrive.

  • HSN takes top spot in online customer experience ranking

    New York -- Home shopping giant HSN is number one in online customer experience, according to the E-tailing Group's 2014l Customer Experience Index. Overall results for the 8th year of the study came in at 72.06, rising above the mark of 71.06 in 2013’s analysis. On the 2014 index, eleven merchants hit the 80+ pinnacle, with HSN have the top score at 88, followed by Office Depot (84.75) and Dick’s Sporting Goods (83).

  • Wegmans, Amazon.com top corporate reputation list

    Wegmans Food Markets, Costco, Publix and CVS are among the highest ranked companies in terms of corporate reputation, according to a new poll.

    The 16th annual Harris Poll Reputation Quotient study ranked the reputations of the 100 most visible companies. Scores range from excellent (scores of 80+) to poor (scores of 50 to 64).
