    St. Petersburg, Fla. – HSN Inc. had a mixed second quarter, meeting Wall Street profit projections but falling short of sales estimates.

    HSN’s net income totaled $41.6 million, up 2% from $40.9 million the same period the prior year.

    Net sales grew 4% to $885.6 million from $855.2 million, including an 11% increase in digital sales.

  • HSN nibbles on sponge cake for its 38th birthday

    HSN is celebrating its 38th year as a direct-to-consumer content retailer by having a party in Margaritaville.

    HSN's fast-growing Margaritaville brand will launch on HSN on July 3 with an assortment of exclusive and curated products that capture the escapism of island living. Viewers can enjoy "It's 5 O'clock Somewhere" Margaritaville programming highlighting the branded merchandise that introduces the island mindset to every home.

  • Wal-Mart not worried about competitors; its 2 million associates are the key

    Bentonville, Ark. -- Speaking at Wal-Mart Stores’ annual shareholders meeting in Bentonville, Arkansas, president and CEO Doug McMillon told the more than 14,000 assembled associates and shareholders that he is more worried about the enemy within the company than competitors.

    “The truth is the real villains are lurking within the company,” said McMillon. “Our real villains are things like bureaucracy, complacency, a lack of speed, or a lack of passion.”

  • HSN launches new cards for select Cornerstone brands

    St. Petersburg – HSN Inc. is partnering with the Card Services division of Alliance Data Systems Corp. (ADS) to provide private label credit card services for its Cornerstone business unit. Alliance Data will develop loyalty-driven card programs for five of Cornerstone's seven multichannel brands -- Ballard Designs, Frontgate, Garnet Hill, Grandin Road and Improvements – each incorporating a tailored approach for their unique customer base.

  • Mobile sales propel HSN in Q1

    HSN’s push to make it easier for smartphone shoppers to buy its products online was successful in the first quarter, with the multichannel retailer reporting a big increase in mobile sales.

    Digital sales at HSN grew 18%, with mobile sales increasing 31%. HSN earned $0.63 per share in the first quarter, exceeding analyst expectations of $0.58 per share. Similarly, revenue of $841.9 million was better than the $826.08 million analysts expected.
