Among the first tenants announced for the retail portion of the transit-oriented, mixed-use complex now under construction in Sunrise are: True Food Kitchen, Kona Grill, Oil & Vinegar, Fogo de Chão and Shake Shack. These will be joined by iPic Theaters, Kings Bowl, Anthropologie, Free People and Kendra Scott, among other first-to-market retailers.

    Starwood Retail Partners debuted Oh, So Simple, a first-of-its-kind rewards program that offers consumers a revolutionary way to earn credit for their purchases at stores across an entire mall. The program piloted at four properties in 2015 and will roll out to all 29 Starwood centers this year. The one-step process links an existing Visa, MasterCard, or personal American Express credit or debit card to an Oh, So Simple Rewards account.     Going into the final stretch of the holiday season, a majority of Americans are far from finished with their holiday shopping.

    Seventy-three percent (73%) plan to shop last minute (vs. 79% in 2014), as most wait to find the best deals (44% vs. 46% in 2014), according to the latest American Express Spending & Saving Tracker.

    Other reasons consumers are shopping last minute include trying to save up until they have enough money (22%, on par with 2014) and difficulty finding the time to shop (20% vs. 16% in 2014).

  • Retail design firm to be acquired

    JLL has entered into an agreement to acquire Big Red Rooster, a brand experience and retail design services company based in Columbus, Ohio.

    The acquisition, expected to close in January 2016, will expand JLL’s project management and design services with dedicated brand experience and design experts who can serve a broad mix of retail, food service, grocery and healthcare companies across the United States.

    Big Red Rooster counts Under Armour, FedEx, T-Mobile, American Express and Nationwide Children’s Hospital among its clients.
