  • A&P shows appreciation for seniors

    MONTVALE, N.J. — Grocer A&P is launching a discount program that offers seniors savings on groceries purchased at A&P, Pathmark, Waldbaum's, Food Emporium and Superfresh banner stores.

    On April 4, the company is launching its "Senior Appreciation Days" program, starting with "Senior Appreciation Mondays," a new special discount program for seniors in all Pathmark banner stores.

  • Justin Bieber’s gives Walmart a hand

    In a move to generate online traffic and pre-orders for the upcoming release of Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never documentary, Walmart.com this week offered autographed copies of the DVD/Blu-Ray combo pack for $24.96. Bieber personally autographed 1,800 copies of the combo-pack, which chronicles his rise to become a pop phenomenon. The strategy appeared to work as by mid-day Thursday the autographed copies were no where to be found on Walmart.com, although there was plenty of other Bieber paraphernalia.

  • Consumers continue to plan ahead before shopping

    MIAMI BEACH — While less consumers are seeking out private-label options this year, preplanning activities continue to be a priority, according to a new survey conducted by SymphonyIRI Group.

    In SymphonyIRI's inaugural MarketPulse survey, the group found that 2-out-of-3 shoppers today are making shopping lists prior to visiting the store, while 56% are reading store fliers either before or at the store — statistics that are in line with trends noted in 2010.

  • New P&G app helps customers live "future friendly"

    NORTHBROOK, Ill. -- Procter & Gamble announced that it has teamed up with its grocery retail partners to create a mobile app designed to help consumers live and shop more sustainably. The app, called "My Carbon Footprint," works on iPhone, iPad or Droid devices is an interactive, social media-enabled carbon footprint gauge powered by P&G's Future Friendly initiative, P&G reported. It will become available on Earth Day, April 22.

  • Legendary French model named latest L'Oreal Paris ambassador

    PARIS  -- L'Oreal Paris announced that it has named Madame Ines de la Fressange as its latest ambassador.

    "Ines de la Fressange, our new L'Oreal Paris spokeswoman, has divine grace, that very contemporary way of being a woman, at once free, unexpected and mesmerizing. An accomplished model, mother and designer, she leads a full life. I am delighted that she is bringing that irresistible 'je ne sais quoi' to the brand," says Cyril Chapuy, global brand president L'Oreal Paris.

  • L.L. Bean implements free-shipping policy

    FREEPORT, Maine — L.L.Bean announced that, effective March 25, it will offer free standard shipping to all United States and Canadian.

    “We tested free shipping offers with no minimum purchase for several months and the customer response was overwhelming,” said Chris McCormick, president and CEO, L.L.Bean. “Our customers want and value free shipping. It’s our opportunity to offer free shipping for all U.S. and Canadian customers with no minimum purchase, no end date, no conditions -- guaranteed.”

  • Kenmore launches online reality series

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill.  -- Kenmore announced that it has launched an online reality series, "So You Wanna Be a Designer."

    For six weeks the reality show will stream live on Kenmore's Facebook page to show budding designers at work, making their dreams a reality. Through the series, contestants will learn how to navigate the barriers of entering the design world: how to create and launch a brand, and how to price, present and promote designs successfully, among other things.

  • One lucky Food Lion customer to win year's worth of groceries

    SALISBURY, N.C. -- Food Lion announced that one lucky MVP customer will win free groceries for a year.

    Customers can scan their MVP cards once a day at the in-store coupon kiosks, and they will be entered for a chance to win free groceries. Customers also can instantly win one of more than 200,000 free national and private brand items starting today through April 19. Free items will be awarded in the form of a coupon on the customer's MVP Savings Center coupon sheet which must be redeemed on the day it is issued.
