  • Report: Super Bowl pays off for online grocers

    Not only was the 2017 Super Bowl a game for the record books, it also drove shoppers to their favorite e-grocers to prep for the big game.   As time-pressed Americans football fans shopped with online grocers for game day necessities, they spent more than $150.18 per order — just a few cents more than the average cart size of all goods purchased on Black Friday, which was $149.68.  
  • Report: Fast-fashion giant uses Google app to customize dresses

    H&M is saying yes to what is being described as a “data dress.”   The fast-fashion retailer is teaming up with Google to create and sell frocks based on customer-specific data tracked by an Android app, reported The Verge.   
  • Home decor retailer lowers guidance on weak Q4

    Kirkland’s same-store sales fell in the fourth quarter amid weak traffic early in December.   The home décor chain reported that its net sales for the 13 weeks ended January 28, 2017, increased 2.1% to $203.2 million compared to the year-ago period. Same- store sales for the quarter, including e-commerce sales, decreased 4.6%.  
  • Pinterest expands ‘search advertising’

    Pinterest is taking its search program to the next level.   The social media site now offers Search Ads, a feature that enables retailers to run ads as “pinners” type keywords into the search bar. The program, which started as a limited test, is now comprised of a full suite of features, including keyword and shopping campaigns that are shown in search results, as well as new targeting and reporting options, Pinterest’s head of global sales, Jon Kaplan, said in the company’s blog.  
  • 1-800-Flowers.com misses Q2 expectations

    Despite a profitable second quarter, 1-800-Flowers.com fell short of expectations.   The company reported a 1.1% revenue growth to $554.6 million for the quarter ending Jan. 1, from $548.4 million the previous year. The company credited its 1-800-Flowers.com and BloomNet segments for the increase, along with modest growth in its Gourmet Food and Gift Baskets segment, and e-commerce growth across the Harry & David, Cheryl’s, The Popcorn Factory and 1-800-Baskets brands, the company said.

    According to a 2015 Nielsen study, two-thirds of consumers trust consumer opinions over company advertising and rely on peer review sites for insights and advice. However, these sites can cause huge headaches for well-intentioned retailers that incentivize consumers to post glowing reviews or find themselves on the wrong side of a revenge or competitor-sponsored post. When not conducted correctly, these efforts can harm brands and further consumer mistrust.   
  • Report: Personalization, price and fulfillment influence most omnichannel shoppers

    Consumers have increasingly high expectations for a unified shopping and brand experience across all purchasing channels and touchpoints.   Retailers that can address their demand for more personalization, price, and fulfillment along the path to purchase will be the winners going forward, according to the “Consumer Trends Report — 2017 Edition,” from Kibo. The study is based on responses from more than 3,000 consumers in the United States and the United Kingdom.
