    Dallas – 7-Eleven is the latest in a growing lineup of retailers that has entered the mobile loyalty space. Just launched on the 7-Eleven mobile app is 7Rewards, an expanded customer loyalty platform that rewards customers with a free beverage for every six cups purchased.

    The onset of 2015 marked a huge change in shipping costs, and as a result retailers are struggling to find ways to maintain their bottom lines. As of Jan. 1, packages are now being evaluated by their “dimensional weight,” or volume, instead of determining price by weight alone. Experts say that the when combined with other annual rate hikes and surcharges, the resulting average rate increases will be as high as 30% or more.

  • Big Lots to re-launch omnichannel strategy

    Big Lots Inc. did what it was supposed to do in the fourth quarter -- and more, as the discount retailer reported a better-than-expected 3% increase in same store sales.

    The company also announced a new omnichannel initiative that it expects to put in place by the first quarter of fiscal 2016. Big Lots has dabbled in online selling in the past, but had discontinued those operations after not getting the strategy down quite right. Now the company says it is looking to fully embrace omnichannel retailing in-store and on its website with a new initiative launching this year.

  • Margins help Big Lots profits get bigger in Q4

    Columbus, Ohio – Higher gross margin helped Big Lots Inc. increase net income 12% to $94.43 million.

    In the fourth quarter of fiscal 2014 from $84.35 million in the same quarter a year earlier. Net sales climbed 1% to $1.59 billion from $1.57 billion, with same-store sales improving 2.9%.

  • Coach Factory store to open new location at Legends Outlets Kansas City

    Kansas City, Kan. -- Coach will permanently extend its temporary stay at Kansas City’s signature designer outlet shopping destination, Legends Outlets Kansas City. The permanent location, which will nearly double the existing pop-up footprint, is slated to open fall 2015.

  • Dick’s debuts new ad campaign

    The belief that sports make people better is the premise of a newly created ad campaign from Dick’s Sporting Goods which requires shoppers to contemplate their future.

    The campaign aired March 6, with the introspective tagline, “Who Will You Be?” on television and via digital channels.

    The campaign’s launch was timed to coincide with ESPN’s College Basketball Championship Week.
