Amazon verifies Alexa shopping communications
Amazon is adding a layer of security to its "Alexa for Shopping" feature to make it easier for customers to tell the difference between real messages from the company and fake ones from scammers
The company is integrating communication verification into the feature, which was released in May 2025 and combines the personalization capabilities of the next-gen Alexa+ voice model with the functionality of its Rufus agentic AI shopping assistant (discontinued as part of the launch) to deliver a targeted shopping experience where customers can browse and shop the full Amazon store using voice, touch, or both.

The new tool checks those details against Amazon's record of every communication it has sent, analyzing sender information, content, timing, and formatting. Within seconds, customers receive a response that lets them know whether the message is confirmed from Amazon, not from Amazon, or unable to verify, along with educational tips and next steps.
Earlier this year, Amazon launched “[email protected]” — an email address available to anyone in the world, Amazon customer or not, to forward a suspicious message and receive a verification response confirming whether it's genuinely from Amazon, with no app or Amazon account required.
Customers can also use a dedicated verification form on Amazon's customer service pages, which walks them through submitting communication details and provides an instant result.
“Scammers thrive when customers can't easily verify whether a message is real,” said Scott Knapp, VP of worldwide buyer risk prevention at Amazon., in a corporate blog post. “That’s why we built a tool to put certainty directly in customers’ hands, in real time, when they need it most. It’s part of our broader commitment to educate and empower customers and protect them against scams.”
Amazon upgrades Alexa for Shopping
Since its release in May 2026, Amazon has taken other steps to enhance the functionality of Alexa for Shopping. These include expanding its price history capabilities to show 30, 90 and 365 days of price history.
Alexa for Shopping also has all the other Amazon agentic shopping capabilities, such as snapping a photo to use visual search, finding deals based on browsing history and shopping lists, searching for items by price range, setting price alerts, and auto buying items at a set price. Shoppers can also track packages and check order status through conversation; as well as receive automatic, personalized notifications of events such as product releases or musical performances with a new feature called "Update Me When."
