Amazon continues expanding the capabilities of its "Alexa for Shopping" feature.

Amazon released Alexa for Shopping in May 2025. It combines the personalization capabilities of the next-gen Alexa+ voice model with the functionality of the Rufus agentic AI shopping assistant (discontinued as part of the launch) to deliver a targeted shopping experience where customers can browse and shop the full Amazon store using voice, touch, or both.

Following the integration of communication verification in September, Amazon is now adding more than 100 new shopping actions to Alexa for Shopping. Leading new capabilities include:

  • Alexa for Shopping can create and edit grocery and wish lists and baby and wedding registries and move items between them. Customers can ask their Alexa device questions like, “Create a new shopping list,” “Add all to my baby registry,” or “Show me what’s left on my wedding registry.”
  • Customers can manage their subscriptions just by saying, “Skip my next delivery,” “Pause my subscription,” or “Change my delivery to every three months.”
  • Members of the Prime paid subscription program can ask questions like, “What are my Prime benefits?” “How much have I saved with Prime this year?” or "When does my Audible subscription renew?”
  • Prime members can handle account changes by saying, “Change the delivery instructions on my account,” or “Add delivery instructions on my address.”
  • Customers can resolve billing questions, view Amazon gift cards and check on refunds by saying things like, “I have an unrecognized charge on my account,” “Show my gift card balance,” or “Where is my refund?”

These capabilities are available now to all U.S. Amazon customers. To start, customers can tap the Alexa icon in the Amazon shopping app or find Alexa for Shopping at the top of their screen on desktop.

Amazon upgrades Alexa for Shopping

Since its release in May 2026, Amazon has taken other steps to enhance the functionality of Alexa for Shopping. These include expanding its price history capabilities to show 30, 90 and 365 days of price history.

Alexa for Shopping also has all the other Amazon agentic shopping capabilities, such as snapping a photo to use visual search, finding deals based on browsing history and shopping lists, searching for items by price range, setting price alerts, and auto buying items at a set price.

Shoppers can also track packages and check order status through conversation; as well as receive automatic, personalized notifications of events such as product releases or musical performances with a feature called "Update Me When."

“Our vision for Alexa for Shopping is to make every part of shopping as convenient as possible,” said Rajiv Mehta, VP of conversational shopping. “Alexa for Shopping can now help with more than 100 brand-new shopping actions, giving customers the ability to handle everything from building a holiday gift list to resolving a billing question just by asking. And this is just the beginning. We're continuing to invent new ways to save customers time and make shopping even more personal.”
