  • QVC appoints former Wal-Mart executive as CIO

    West chester, Pa. -- QVC announced that Linda Dillman has been appointed CIO, Dillman most recently served as senior VP global IT at HP. Previously, she was executive VP and CIO at Wal-Mart Stores.

  • Walmart to offer free federal 1040 EZ tax filing in some 3,000 stores

    Bentonville, Ark. -- Walmart is expanding the services it offers at tax time to include free in-store federal Form 1040EZ filing.

    The chain has partnered with Jackson Hewitt and H&R Block to double its in-store tax kiosks and lower the cost for tax preparation services. Jackson Hewitt will offer free federal Form 1040EZ filing at its Walmart kiosks throughout the tax season, and H&R Block will offer a free federal Form 1040EZ until Feb. 29.

  • American Eagle launches global agency review

    Pittsburgh -- American Eagle Outfitters said Friday that it has begun a search for a marketing communications agency partner or partners.

    The scope of services, according to the retailer, will include traditional and digital media strategy, planning and execution, as well as collaboration in creative development for its American Eagle Outfitters, Aerie and 77kids brands in North America and internationally.

    “Hiring an agency is a natural evolution in the growth of the AEO family of brands,” said Michael Leedy, CMO.

  • PetSmart appoints CEO as chairman, names new COO

    Phoenix -- PetSmart said Friday it has appointed current CEO Robert Moran to also serve as the company’s chairman of the board. Moran, 61, has been president and CEO since 2009, and served as president and COO from 2001 to 2009.

    The board of directors also appointed David K. Lenhardt as the company’s new president and COO. Lenhardt, 42, has been with PetSmart since 2000, most recently as executive VP, over store operations, human resources and information systems.

  • Fresh Market names COO

    Greensboro, N.C. -- The Fresh Market said Thursday it has promoted Sean Crane to executive VP and COO, reporting directly to Craig Carlock, president and CEO.

    Crane was previously senior VP store operations. In his new role, he will lead store operations, merchandising and marketing functions.
     

  • Scott & Goble Architects renamed SGA Design Group

    Tulsa, Okla. -- Scott & Goble Architects said Friday that it has been renamed SGA Design Group, effective immediately.

    The firm operates offices in Bentonville, Ark., Berkley, Calif., and Los Angeles, in addition to its Tulsa headquarters.

    Clients include Walmart, Kohl’s, Lowe’s, Sports Authority and Hobby Lobby.
     

  • CEO of Claire’s Stores steps down

    Chicago -- Claire’s Stores announced that Eugene S. Kahn has resigned. Kahn has served in the position since the company went private in 2007 in a $3.1 billion takeover by private-equity firm Apollo Management LP.

    While the board will conduct a search for internal and external candidates, Claire's Stores President James G. Conroy and Jay Friedman, president of Claire's North American Division, will immediately form an interim office of the CEO.

  • A&P chooses Galleria to optimize its merchandising strategy

    Chicago -- Galleria Retail Technology Solutions, a provider of retail and category optimization solutions, announced that The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. has chosen Galleria to help optimize its merchandising strategy and improve the customer experience within its more than 300 northeast and Mid-Atlantic stores.

    A&P will roll out several of Galleria’s solutions throughout its family of supermarkets.
