Spartan Stores Names CEO

New York City Spartan Stores Inc. said Thursday its board of directors has appointed current president and COO Dennis Eidson to serve as CEO, effective Oct. 15.

Eidson will continue in his roles until then and retain the president title.

The company said Craig Sturken, currently the chairman and chief executive, will continue in his role as executive chairman of the board.

Eidson joined the company in 2003 as executive VP of marketing and merchandising. In 2007, he was appointed executive VP and COO, and then named to the board of directors as the company's president.

Sturken was named president and CEO in March 2003. He was elected chairman that August.
