  • Report: Blockbuster may try to sell itself

    New York City -- Blockbuster plans to put itself up for sale after a disagreement with its creditors, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

    The report, which cited unnamed sources, said the chain could not agree with creditors on a plan to get cash to help it exit bankruptcy protection. According to the Journal, a bidder could offer more than $300 million for the chain plus assuming debt and leases.
     

  • Panasonic introduces new bread maker

    SECAUCUS, N.J. -- Panasonic has introduced a new bread maker that makes it easier to make raisin, nut and other more complicated breads. According to a company press release the SD-RD250 Bread Maker features a new raisin/dried fruit/nut dispenser, which allows for the ingredients to be added at the beginning of the baking process and conveniently dispersed evenly at the optimum time, during the bread-baking process.  The new dispenser, which holds approximately 5.3 ounces, is removable for easy washing.

  • Advance Auto Parts 4Q EPS surges

    It was almost all good news for Advance Auto parts this week, as the company reported record fourth-quarter sales and profits. Fourth-quarter earnings per share increased 46% to 57 cents compared with 36 cents during the comparable period the prior year, and full-year profits rose to $3.95 from $2.83 the prior year.

    Those who believe the world is on the brink of collapse may want to head over to Sam’s Club.com where the retailer is offering a one-year emergency food supply kit for $949. The manufacturer, Augason Farms, notes in the product description that large numbers of Americans all over the country are becoming more aware of their need of emergency food storage. The pitch continues, “storing food for your family is one of the most prudent actions you will ever take to protect your loved ones.

  • Report: Consumer credit-card use bounces back in January

    Atlanta -- A report released Wednesday by First Data Corp., which tracks same-store consumer spending by credit, signature debit, PIN debit, EBT cards and checks at U.S. merchant locations, found that more consumers opted to pay with credit cards in January.

    According to the First Data SpendTrend report for January 2011, transaction growth on credit cards was at a 13-month high in January and year-over-year credit dollar volume growth was the second highest in over a year.

    NEW YORK-- Barneys New York has launched a new editorial site called "The Window," which will reside on Barneys.com.
