  • Visa teams up with Oracle to offer retailers feedback on online ads

    Visa and Oracle are partnering to provide merchants with new insights regarding their digital ads.   Visa has introducted Visa Advertising Solutions, a new suite of products available to retailers through the Oracle Data Cloud. It is designed to help merchants understand whether their digital advertising efforts are influencing consumer purchase decisions online and in stores.  
  • Target shakeup: New chief digital officer is already out

    That was fast.   Jason Goldberger, the recently promoted chief digital officer of Target Corp., has left the company, effective immediatedly. No reason was given for his departure.    Goldberger's responsibilities will be split, with Target CIO Mike McNamara overseeing the website and digital operations, and chief merchandising officer Mike Tritton taking on pricing and promotions.  
  • Best Buy to push products from startups

    Best Buy hopes to enhance its appeal to customers with innovative products from startups.    The consumer electronics giant has launched a program, called Ignite, that will include dedicated store space for products and services from startups, and a new section on the Best Buy web site where customers can browse, learn about, and purchase the newest products from startups.  
  • Prime membership is rising quickly

    Half of all American households might have an Amazon Prime membership by the end of this year.

    Cowen and Company analyst John Blackledge estimates that approximately 44% of U.S. households are Prime members, and that  penetration could accelerate to 50% by the end of the year, according to a report by CNBC.   

    Prime has maintained healthy growth largely due to [its] increasing value proposition," Blackledge said. 

  • It’s back ... annual free online shipping event

    Mark your calendars. Free Shipping Day, the one-day online event featuring free shipping with no minimum order requirement and delivery by Christmas Eve, is scheduled this year for Friday, Dec. 16.

    "While we try to schedule the event one week before Christmas Eve, the calendar doesn't always accomodate," said Luke Knowles, founder of Free Shipping Day.  "What sets Free Shipping Day apart from other shopping holidays is small business participation.”

  • CVS Health delays curbside service launch

    CVS Health shoppers have to wait a few more days for curbside pickup.   On the eve of launching its new ‘CVS Curbside Pickup’ service, the chain postponed the launch date due to technical difficulties.    The drug chain was ready to kick-off its app-based curbside pickup service across is 4,000 locations nationwide on Thursday, Sept. 22. However, due to overuse during the company’s soft-launch, the app became sluggish and orders began piling up.   
  • Canal Street Market set to open in Manhattan

    A food hall-cum-retail bazaar called Canal Street Market is set to open at the northern edge of Chinatown in downtown Manhattan, just south of SoHo and Tribeca.   Developer Philip Chong is claiming the site will be the first combined food and retail experience in this section of New York. A food hall will feature about a dozen options, including Yori Nori, a new concept from the owners of Korila and Mokbar, plus Davey’s Ice Cream and Boba Guy.
