CVS Health delays curbside service launch

9/23/2016

CVS Health shoppers have to wait a few more days for curbside pickup.

On the eve of launching its new ‘CVS Curbside Pickup’ service, the chain postponed the launch date due to technical difficulties.

The drug chain was ready to kick-off its app-based curbside pickup service across is 4,000 locations nationwide on Thursday, Sept. 22. However, due to overuse during the company’s soft-launch, the app became sluggish and orders began piling up.

“We’ve seen greater interest from people looking to try the service than we anticipated,” a spokeswoman for CVS told Chain Store Age.

To avoid further hiccups, CVS shut down the service on Wednesday, Sept. 21, to solve the glitch, the Boston Globe said.

Down but not out, CVS plans to continue its nationwide rollout plan next week.

“Overall, we are excited there has been such an enthusiastic response as we’ve begun preparing to introduce ‘CVS Curbside Pickup’ to more cities,” Palumbo added, declining to specify a launch date.

Once it goes live, shoppers will place their orders directly through their app. The app’s location technology prompts in-store associates to pick and pack orders as the shopper arrives at their chosen location. Orders are then delivered to shoppers’ cars within an hour.

The program is being launched in conjunction with Curbside, a store pickup service provider. CVS has also invested in the company to prove its commitment to “driving further innovations that will help customers save time and money while pursuing a healthier lifestyle,” a company statement said.
